We wrote The Product is Docs, we created the Splunk Style Guide, and we meet regularly as a group to improve our skills and share our knowledge with each other. We engage with our peers throughout the profession to challenge assumptions and provoke discussions about the best ways to develop information, connect with customers, and address challenges in the industry. We're looking for a brilliant (but humble) technical writer to join the Splunk docs team to create high-quality documentation for our Splunk Observability Cloud products.Technical writers on our team play a vital role in getting our customers up and running quickly. Our customers include software developers, site reliability engineers, and technical operations teams. As a technical writer at Splunk, you'll work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating daily with software engineers, product managers, other technical writers, and editors. In our Agile environment, you will be continuously updating your content with improvements and new features.To succeed in this role, you must be a confident writer of enterprise software documentation who is passionate about learning new concepts, testing end-to-end procedures yourself, and clearly explaining complex technologies. This position offers continuous learning and frequent direct interaction with enthusiastic customers who rely on Splunk documentation every day to accomplish their goals. This is a remote position based in Europe and is open to residents of any of the following countries: Estonia, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain, or the UK. You can also be based in a Splunk office in Estonia or Poland if you prefer not to work remotely.ResponsibilitiesCraft and maintain high-quality documentation to help customers get their data seamlessly from their cloud data sources into our Observability solutions.Work closely with technical and support staff to ensure that conceptual and instructional documentation for getting data in is accurate, complete, and well-organized.Participate in planning documentation projects with engineering teams and product management.Make structural and organizational improvements to the documentation set so that both new and advanced users can easily find information and examples relevant to their requirements, use cases, and environments.Test, edit, clarify, and proofread documentation written by others using an open source model.Manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.Communicate with teams in multiple time zones, arranging your own working schedule that allows you to be sustainably productive while actively participating with teams and individuals working in EEST, CET, ET, MT, and PT.Basic QualificationsA minimum of 8 years in a technical writing or lead writing role.Demonstrated ability to self-manage documentation projects.Experience designing and delivering clear, accurate documentation targeted at developers or infrastructure and operations engineering teams.Experience working in an Agile environment, preferably with both onsite and remote team members working in multiple time zones.Experience using Git as a version management tool, including working with branches, creating pull requests, and resolving merge conflicts.Preferred QualificationsDegree in Computer Science or related field, or relevant professional experience.Experience administering and configuring cloud infrastructure and services with AWS, GCP, and Azure.Experience with instrumentation and data collection technology.Experience contributing to open source projects.
