The Institute
The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed of an interdisciplinary, motivated, and creative scientific team supported by a flexible and efficient administration and high-end, innovative technologies. In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code). Please check out our Recruitment Policy.
The role
The EGA Team at CRG is leading or participating in several international projects that cover a broad domain of aspects related to open science, data sharing, and sensitive human data management in the context of biomedical research on oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular, neurological, and infectious diseases. The team is also involved in the definition of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health's (GA4GH) Beacon protocol and its deployment in research and healthcare institutions. The GA4GH Beacon is a protocol for helping in the secure discovery of patient cases or genomic variations data and knowledge, aiming to speed up the translational process from research to bedside. The team also contributes to other GA4GH projects and standards, as well as to the Spanish efforts in Precision Medicine through the IMPaCT-DATA Project (Infrastructure of Precision Medicine associated with Science and Technology). The Program Manager role would be to contribute to spreading the word about, among others, the services provided by EGA, the results of the projects in which EGA is participating, and any novelty about the GA4GH Beacon evolution and implementations. The new team members will work closely with the EGA Team Leader, the Project Managers, the Beacon Team, and coordinate with the relevant CRG departments, such as the Communications Office or the International and Scientific Affairs (ISA) department. Additionally, the Program Managers will coordinate with the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI), ELIXIR Europe (the European Infrastructure for Biological Data), the GA4GH, and any other EGA partner or stakeholder when necessary and will be funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
About the team
The European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) is a service for secure archiving and sharing of all types of personally identifiable genetic and phenotypic data resulting from biomedical studies and healthcare centres. Jointly managed by the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) in Cambridge (UK), the EGA provides an invaluable service to the worldwide biomedical research community. The two teams, even if geographically split, collaborate on a daily basis. The EGA team at the CRG is composed of nearly 20 members coming from all around the globe and with diverse professional expertise: we have helpdesk officers, system administrators, bioinformatics, IT architects, web developers, and project managers. Altogether, we are involved in several international projects in numerous scientific fields, where we bring our expertise in human genomic data management. Furthermore, our team continuously works to improve and deploy new services, with the goal of adding value to the huge assets that EGA is responsible for. The EGA team is a multicultural and professionally diverse team. We offer a stimulating environment, with enormous learning and growing opportunities.
