The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organizations in the world. The newest EMBL site is located in the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB), one of the largest infrastructures in Southern Europe dedicated to translational research.
The main focus of the EMBL Barcelona site is in tissue biology and disease modeling. Our overall goal is to create a number of synthetic tissues for investigating development and disease. To do so, many of our research groups work with stem cell and organoid cultures.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated staff scientist to support ongoing projects involving stem cell and organoid culture and to develop novel approaches and research directions.

Your roleThe successful candidate will be intrinsically motivated and will work closely with EMBL group leaders and their team members to lead projects related to their ongoing research. The position involves collaborative research and provides opportunities for making innovations in the field by continuously advancing stem cell platforms for tissue and disease modelling through new technologies and project ideas.
The position will be directly supervised by Dr. Talya Dayton, who will work with the candidate to coordinate contributions of the role to projects led by several EMBL group leaders.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintaining and differentiating human pluripotent stem cellsAdopting and developing new differentiation and organoid culture methodsDeveloping organoid co-culture and assembloid methods relevant to EMBL Group Leader research programsDevelopment of genetically engineered cellular models, including CRISPR-generated knock-ins and knock-outsInitial phenotyping of advanced cellular modelsGrading: 6, 7 or 8; depending on qualifications and experience
Minimum requirements include:
Experience working with iPSCs, embryonic stem cells, and/or tissue derived stem cellsExtensive expertise in working with multicellular systems and organoid culturesIndependent and motivated work habitsProactiveness and enthusiasm toward learning new techniquesExcellent organization and time management skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishMeticulous record-keeping skills with strong attention to detailAbility to troubleshoot and problem solveDesire to work in a team environmentStrong project management and leadership skillsTrack record of writing papers as evidenced by publications in refereed journals/preprintsAbility to prioritize, see the big picture, and nevertheless focus on detailsAbility to set up effective networks and working relationshipsAbility to critically review information and readily understand new conceptsAbility to develop innovative processes to achieve goalsAbility to independently review activities to continually work towards process improvement** Don't meet every single requirement?
