Position: Casualty Senior Underwriter
Location: Madrid Office
About the Department & Team: Underwriting Casualty business. Commercial activity, dealing with our brokers and clients effectively. Dealing with both new business and renewal submissions. Having in place the appropriate U/W Authority is required. Checking documents: Submissions, underlying policies, slips and loss records. Using the rating tool and all the supporting systems (e.g. Rulebook, DOT, PowerBI, RFID, Peer Reviews and Underwriting Authority Governance).
Key Responsibilities: Supporting the growth of the Casualty business in our Madrid office.Dealing with underwriting tasks, such as pricing and assessing liability risks, following our risk appetite, Underwriting Guidelines, and Treaty framework.Developing LSM market relationships with brokers and clients; having commercial skills and a previous broking network in the Spanish market is required.Dealing with complex renewals (negotiating renewal terms & conditions with brokers, assessing exposure development, loss experience, issuing appropriate referrals).Getting familiar with all in-house tools (e.g. Rulebook, DOT, PowerBI, RFID, Peer Reviews, and Underwriting Authority Governance).Handling all underwriting-related tasks such as file completion, peer reviews, and participating in the IPR as appropriate.Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements and demonstrating behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy.Skills and Experience: Appropriate university degree or higher education qualification (Law Degree preferably) or equivalent.Understanding of insurance contracts with experience in Casualty underwriting (including large and complex risks), showing a generic understanding of other liability lines (e.g. EIL).Good level of communication skills.Ability to assume responsibility, experience working against measurable performance targets, professional and confident approach with brokers and clients.Showing initiative, autonomy, and proactiveness is key for this role as a Senior Underwriter.Organized and service-oriented.Commitment and willingness to develop his/her professional career.Fluent in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner.About Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM): Liberty Specialty Markets is part of Global Risk Solutions and the broader Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, a leading global insurer.
