Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people's quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. IRB Barcelona is seeking a motivated and experienced Research Assistant for the Comparative Genomics Group of the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona). This position is funded by the project "Disrupting drug resistance by exploiting collateral sensitivity to design novel". DUTIES: We are looking for a candidate to work on the experimental laboratory of the group, specifically implementing new protocols of involving PCR and NGS technologies in tight collaboration with the sequencing facility of the centre. The candidate will mainly work on implementation of amplicon targeted sequencing, single-cell sequencing, and multiplexing protocols, as well as with development of some new experimental pipelines using qPCR. The candidate will interact with core facilities at the IRB and services elsewhere, as well as with other members of the group (collaborating in joint projects).
The candidate will keep high quality standards of research, coordinating experimental work of specific projects, and writing, updating and executing procedures and protocols for experimental research. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS: Must Have – Required: Experience:Bachelor degree or Master in a related field. We are looking for an experienced research assistant with at least 2 years of working experience with similar duties. Knowledge:Extensive knowledge of molecular biology techniques. Knowledge of next generation sequencing technologies and qPCR. Skills:The candidate should have high organization capacity, good interpersonal skills, and capacity to develop on her/his own new experimental protocols (with the advice and supervision of more senior members). Languages: Good written and spoken English. Desirable: Experience:Experience working on library preparation for NGS would be a plus. Previous experience working in pathogen identification or with microbiome analysis would also be considered positively. Skills: Autonomy, organizational skills.
