Spring professional is looking a Research director for a international manufacturer of quality electrical and electronic products for a broad range of non-residential and residential construction, industrial and utility **Duties and Responsibilities**: - Responsible for establishing and executing the research strategy for one of the five technology focus areas (sensors, controls, communications, analytics, or devices).
Build a long-term technology development roadmap for that focus area and advocate for and oversee its execution.
- Work with business leaders and technologists throughout the company to identify promising technologies.
Plan a new technology initiative (NTI) to mature the technology and quantify the cost and risk.
Propose NTI to senior management as a tradeoff between market opportunity and risk.
- Ensure quality research by selecting appropriate members of the research staff as contributors to the NTI.
Set milestones and track and report on progress periodically.
Manage delays and disruptions.
Set documentation requirements for completion and manage peer review.
- Cogently communicate research results to stakeholders, product, and financial organization.
Place results within the context of the greater research roadmap and strategy.
Advise as to follow-on research required.
- Oversee technology transfer for successful research.
Ensure timely integration of technology into product line throughout the NPD process by working with project and technical leads.
Manage research staff during technology transition.
**Skills and Experience**: - 10 or more years experience in industrial or academic research - 10 or more years experience leading technology development teams - Publication and/or patent record demonstrating significant technical depth and experience - Ability to think strategically about research in an industrial setting - Experience planning and executing research projects - Outstanding critical thinking skills - A penchant for thinking creatively about problems with no known solutions - Ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues to a breadth of audiences **Education**: - M.S.
(Ph.D. preferred) in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
