Two 4-year PhD positions are available in the Macromolecular Crystallography Unit headed by Prof. Alberto Marina at the Institute of Biomedicine of Valencia (CSIC), Valencia, Spain. Funded by the ERC collaborative project TakingPhages, we will decipher and establish the molecular basis of the Arbitrium system, a novel communication mechanism of bacteriophages and other mobile genetic elements that confers social attributes.By providing knowledge about the molecular mechanism of Arbitrium and its diversity, we aim to understand how this microbial communication mechanism shapes the diversity of mobile genetic elements, the interactions among mobile genetic elements, and its role in bacterial ecology and evolution. The experimental approach will consist of a broad range of structural, biochemical, and biophysical techniques in bacterial and mobile genetics models. We offer an international, stimulating, and well-funded working project in a multidisciplinary environment with our collaborators headed by Prof. José R. Penadés (Imperial College London, UK) and Prof. Avigdor Eldar (Tel Aviv University, Israel).Recent Related Publications:Zamora-Caballero et al.
