OW a controlled 50/50 joint venture between EDP and Engie is looking for a analytical and result-oriented Metocean Intern.
Are you willing to join a passionate and high performing team, in a cross-cultural, fast-paced, and strongly grOWing environment?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION You will be responsible for assessing the metocean and wind conditions of our future floating and bottom fixed offshore wind farms all over the world oceans. There is an open position to work on the development of a framework to use machine learning techniques for metocean Site Characterization. Site Characterization is the cornerstone of the metocean analysis, it is the scope of work related to the analysis of the wind, the waves, ocean currents and other atmospheric variables. We would like to apply Machine Learning techniques to 1. Identify outliers within the metocean observations 2. Correct systematic errors of the simulations Numerical simulations are used to generate a climate time series of metocean observations. However, given their limitation to describe the model space accurately, there are eventually systematic errors that would need to be removed. Measurement campaigns conducted on site will be the most valuable information in order to identify these errors.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES • Learn about metocean site characterization, observations and simulations.
• Work on the development of a frameworks that compare and correct errors within the simulations.
• GitHub repository management
• Documentation of the processes through markdown
• Support the development of the Floating LiDAR campaigns database
• Designing the right wind & metocean campaign at each site under development accordingly to the company's pipeline and project's budget.
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND Master's degree in mechanical, environmental or civil engineering, physics, mathematics, statistics or similar disciplines.
LANGUAGES Strong command of English language (written and spoken).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • No professional experience is needed
KNOWLEDGE • Proficiency use of a programming language such as Python or Matlab.
• Experience in repository management through GitHub
• Experience applying machine learning techniques to large datasets.
• Knowledge of the atmosphere and ocean dynamics
SKILLS • Be able to manage large datasets
• Being an organised code developer
• Having true curiosity to learn about metocean and atmospheric modelling and its interaction with engineering
• Strong sense of values and ethics, including confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
• Ability to work in team but also take initiative and be result oriented
