Associate Director, Strategic EvaluationThis is what you will do: The Associate Director, Strategic Evaluation will identify and evaluate new Business Development opportunities and is project lead for acquisitions, alliances, collaborations, in-licensing, and out-licensing transactions across the rare disease space. The role is responsible for drafting and negotiating term sheets, proposals, partnering agreements and licenses to meet Alexion business development goals (in partnership with Legal). The role will also support the generation of therapeutic area (TAs) strategies and implementation in conjunction with the TA R&D and Commercial colleagues. The Associate Director, Strategic Evaluation utilizes a strong scientific background to conduct assessments of the strength of each prospective opportunity. The role reports directly to the Head of Business Development and plays a key role in purposeful growth and development of Alexion's future pipeline.
You will be responsible for: Identifying, investigating, analyzing, and forming third-party relationships that create mutually beneficial business partnerships.Assessing aims, hypotheses, preliminary data, research plans and expected outcomes to triage issues and qualify opportunities in alignment with Alexion's scientific, financial, and business objectives.Applying rigor to identify and assess issues that may impact the direction of the pipeline; weighing the potential and risks of each opportunity, and using multiple methods of analysis, making recommendations on opportunities to pursue and working with the diligence team to establish risk mitigation strategies.Serving as the project lead throughout the evaluation process, managing and tracking the data room, ensuring appropriate protocols and disclosures; directing cross-functional teams on the completion of activities to support the information gathering, financial modeling, business evaluation and forecasting necessary to support the scientific evaluation of each scenario.Collaborating with partners in Commercial, Research & Development, Legal, Finance, and Global Operations to ensure alignment of activities and business needs.Finding prospective buyers, preparing data room and sales pitch, and acting as point of contact to external parties in out licensing process.Drafting, reviewing, and editing transaction documents including CDAs, term sheets, and contracts while ensuring Alexion compliance and quality requirements are fulfilled (in partnership with Legal).Negotiating key terms and critical items and closing deals within established timeframes.Collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan, manage, and drive strategic plan (including life cycle management, competitive intelligence, and risk/gap identification for internal program and business development execution).Presenting business case for deals to senior leadership and representing Alexion to external parties such as investment bankers and venture capital.Driving the identification of external business opportunities based on Alexion's business strategy and search parameters and priorities.Building strong relationships within the academic, industry associations, pharmaceutical and biotechnology communities to bring awareness of the company's interests and capabilities.Representing Alexion at industry and academic conventions and conferences.Contributing to building Alexion's business development infrastructure and capabilities.Establishing best practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvements of processes and methodologies.Supporting the Alliance and Integration Management team to ensure a smooth transition to a partnered program.Accountable for: Identification and qualification of both buy-side and sell-side opportunities.Project management of a portfolio of potential business development activities.Evaluation of scenarios across a range of transaction models including acquisition, licensing, and collaboration partnerships.Business case representations with key internal stakeholders.Establishing and maintaining relationships with potential business partners.
