.Role DescriptionBased in Barcelona, Spain, FocusEconomics is a leading provider of economic intelligence reports and data solutions for senior executives in multinational companies and governmental organizations. We are expanding our operations and are therefore looking for a full-time junior economist. Our research team finds and analyzes a continuous stream of economic news and summarizes the findings for our clients. In addition, economic researchers maintain and update our internal database of economic forecasts, covering more than 200 countries worldwide.The candidate should have finished a degree in economics and should have a very good knowledge of macroeconomics. The position requires excellent writing and communication skills in English (native level). Experience in journalism/report writing is a strong asset for this position. Ability to meet strict deadlines is essential. Good analytical skills are important and first professional experiences are a plus. The candidate must have a solid background in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel. Basic knowledge of database software (Access, MySQL, etc.) and/or basic macro-programming (VBA) are a plus.ResponsibilitiesKeep abreast of current economic and political developments in countries and commodity markets via news, research papers, and statistical updates.Ensure timely written coverage of country economic indicators.Write insightful country and commodities bullets following the FocusEconomics style guidelines.Write more complex and longer country content as and when required, with limited assistance from other Economists and their Team Leader.Ensure the quality of our panelists' forecasts.Validate historical economic data for countries, highlighting any room for improvement in this historical data and fixing any gap or error.Revision of other economists' written work, country forecasts, historical country data, and PDF reports.Respond to panelist and client questions and requests.Assist the Team Leader and other economists with ad-hoc tasks as and when required.RequirementsDegree in economics with a focus on macroeconomics or international economics.Solid background in macroeconomics.Knowledge of current economic debates relevant to decision makers in business and government.Passion for the English language and ability to craft clear, concise, and factually accurate writing.Well-developed sense of teamwork.Great attention to detail.Extremely organized and willing to complete routine administrative tasks.Able to meet tight deadlines and juggle competing priorities.Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of economic theories.Ability to write reports covering economic developments.Ability to determine data interrelationships.Ability to analyze and interpret economic data requests.Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
