Context And Mission
The Operations Department is responsible for the seamless daily operation of the Spanish Supercomputing Network's supercomputers, including MareNostrum5—one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. The department ensures remote access for users across Spain and internationally. In addition to routine maintenance and operational duties, the team is deeply involved in optimization work, enabling applications, and conducting performance analysis studies. They also play a key role in planning and designing new systems and support facilities. We are looking for a High-Performance Computing (HPC) support engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in technology and Linux, eager to learn the fundamentals of HPC and grow into a specialist role, becoming a vital part of our team. Key Duties
Resolve the issues that users of the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) may encounter during their computations. Additionally, you will assist users in optimizing their applications to ensure efficient use of computational resources.
Help the User Support and applications consultant group with performance application monitoring and parallel optimization.
Work in new solutions to improve the user experience using HPC resources
Create new solutions to automatize the resolution of incidents or request to facilitate the day-to-day work of the team.
Requirements
Education
Graduated in Computer Science (or related discipline)
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience and knowledge in Linux systems
Experience in parallel programming models (MPI, OpenMP, threads,...) is an advantage but not a requirement.
Desirable knowledge on MySQL, PYTHON and BASH script.
Good level of English
Competences
Capacity to interact and build strong relations with the team
Good written and verbal communication skills
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department
We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
