Job Description – EHS Specialist
Summary of the role:
The Environment, Health and Safety Specialist, as part of the Resilience, EHS and ESG department, is accountable for maintaining Cognizant's Environment, Health and Safety standards, ISO14001 and ISO45001 certifications and ensuring compliance with local Wellbeing at work regulations. As an EHS Specialist, you act as the point of support and escalation for all Environment, Health & Safety matters, manage the security and awareness of the employees and take appropriate measures, in collaboration with the EHS Lead for Europe, to comply with safety and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure 100% regulatory compliance and best practice wellbeing for Cognizant employees.
Develop, maintain, implement and improve EHS and well-being at work initiatives, policies and programs consistent with legislative requirements, global guidelines, and industry best practices.
Prepare and update the documentation related to regulations on health and safety, wellbeing, prevention and protection at work, and provide training and information to employees on these topics.
Determine appropriate measures based on hazards analysis and provide advice on work methods, equipment, etc., and prevent the recurrence of serious work accidents.
Perform Risk Assessments for activities and sites in Spain.
Carry out frequent and systematic EHS Site Inspections to detect risks of accidents and incidents, monitor compliance with Cognizant's prevention policy, and conduct thorough surveys of workplaces and workstations.
Manage the policy of prevention of accidents at work, report writing, accident analysis and investigation, and implementation of additional safety measures.
Health surveillance monitoring, including ensuring first aid and emergency care for associates who are victims of accidents.
Declare occupational diseases.
Engage across all sites to support the GWS (Global Workplace Services) team in implementing the Global EHS policy, manual guidelines, and procedures.
Identify EHS training needs and support training implementation and completion.
Track and communicate legislative and system changes, ensuring compliance and reporting progress to leadership.
Assist in preparing, maintaining, reviewing, and executing legal registers, facility risk assessments (HAIARO), operational controls, work instructions, work permits, MOC, and other documents which formulate the EHSMS.
Ensure regular reporting of EHS Targets & Objectives.
Fulfil the ISO standard Requirements ISO 14001 of Environmental Affairs and ISO 45001 of Occupational Health and Safety.
Participate in the EHS audits supporting GWS and ensure regular walkthroughs and inspections of the sites are conducted.
Conduct external vendor/contractor/landlord evaluations and audits to Cognizant EHS standards.
Prepare and implement the EPRP for the different sites across the region and implement the Annual Mock Drill Plan.
Skills & Competencies:
Bachelor, Master or equivalent diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, certified in Spain, with the 3 technical specialties: Safety at work, Hygiene and Psychosocial Risks and Ergonomics.
Health and Safety Grade is mandatory.
Demonstrable experience in a similar role.
Communications in Spanish and English.
Sustained attention-to-detail.
Proficient in using PowerPoint, Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
