The role
Are you detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and ready for a hands-on role in a dynamic environment?
ALS Geochemistry is looking for a Fire Assayer to work in our Fire Assay section at our facility in Malaga, where you'll be at the forefront of precious metal recovery using traditional fire assay techniques.
Key Responsibilities: Accurately weigh samples and add flux reagents as part of the fire assay process.Fuse mixtures in a high-temperature furnace (900 - 1100°C) to extract precious metals, including gold.Perform cupellation and prilling daily to collect and prepare metal samples.Conduct thorough inspections of samples, fusion pots, lead buttons, and prills before laboratory testing.Record any anomalies to ensure the accuracy and quality of the assay process.Adhere strictly to fire assay safety procedures, proactively identifying and addressing potential safety issues.The starting rate is $33.53 per hour. In addition, you will receive shift allowances of 15% for the afternoon shift and 20% for the night shift.
As you build your experience in this role, you can secure a full-time position and earn higher pay rates. Additionally, penalty rates are paid for any weekend or other overtime (optional) and are added to the hourly rate advertised.
This Casual position will involve working a Monday to Friday rotating 8-hour shift: with 1 week each of Days, Nights, and Afternoons. The essentials Strong attention to detail, ensuring precision in all aspects of the assay process.Clear communication skills, both written and oral.Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to perform procedures promptly and accurately.Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.Ability to work effectively within a team, following detailed training and safety protocols.Ability to thrive in a physically demanding, high-temperature work environment.Flexibility and reliability to meet the dynamic demands of the department.Working at ALS
