Title: Engineering Manager, Backend (Credit Engineering)

Job Description: Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead projects and initiatives on the Credit Engineering team, responsible for building the credit platform that manages and optimizes the core decisioning systems that govern value exchange between merchants, consumers, and Affirm, in all of our products. The nuts and bolts of managing credit risk at scale – the credit platform powers consumer-facing credit experiences. The team's mission is to build and maintain a system that supports efficient decisioning, easy experimentation across the product suite, and the creation of optimal offers for consumers. Areas of focus include latency, decision accuracy, and speed of delivery. The Credit Engineering team partners closely with Product, the Credit business team, and Machine Learning engineering teams to deliver honest and transparent financial products that help deliver value to all parties in the Affirm ecosystem.
What You'll Do:
Collaborate with Engineering and Product to develop a long-term technical roadmap towards a platform that meets stakeholder and growing business needs.
Hold a high technical bar with a bias towards longevity and simplicity via specification and architecture review.
Grow and build a team of talented engineers to support the company's accelerating business growth.
Provide leadership and career growth opportunities to team members, develop talent, and mentor engineers.
Take ownership to understand the business context. Own the delivery of business goals along with product and business partners.
Build a strong engineering culture around innovation, accountability, empathy, and execution.
What We Look For:
A drive to change consumer financial services for the better.
Prior experience growing and managing engineering teams.
Prior experience architecting, building, launching, and maintaining complex systems.
Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills.
Proven ability to hire and build teams.
Base Pay Grade: P
Equity Grade: 13
Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure based on a variety of factors, including location, experience, and job-related skills.
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $225,000 – $275,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $200,000 – $250,000
