Lead Counsel, EU Data Protection Responsibilities:Monitor, analyze and respond to developments in data protection and data security in the EU/EEA (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgments, regulatory guidance, etc.)
and provide practical legal advice in cross-functional, multinational projects to ensure Facebook's compliance with applicable laws and to mitigate legal risks across multiple jurisdictions.Provide full-service support to the wider legal team on EU/EEA regulatory, litigation and security matters.Support policy, product legal, engineering, sales and other business teams with legal advice on matters at the intersection of data protection and other laws including for external communication and policy development.Liaise with regulators and outside counsel.Minimum Qualifications:Lawyer qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction.Minimum of 5 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience, including at a law firm, data protection or other relevant authority or prior in-house experience.In-depth knowledge of legal issues in the area of online social media platforms and messaging services, including an excellent understanding of data protection laws and in particular GDPR and ePrivacy.Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.Fluency in English.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working directly with European data protection authorities and/or experience in data protection litigation a plus.Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and provide pragmatic and considered advice under tight deadlines.The working language for this role will be English - knowledge of, or fluency in, German a plus.
