for professional and personal references on your resume.Responsibilities:Assist veterinarian to prepare for and during surgical procedures, including preparing surgery packs, scalpel blades, and suture material, and monitoring a patient using an anesthetic machine.Serve as scrubbed surgical assistant.Provide individualized wellness counseling to clients based on knowledge of preventive care, disease prevention, and lifestyle risks.Prepare and administer vaccinations, oral and topical medications to patients as prescribed by the veterinarian.Continuously inform medical staff of changes in the general condition of patients during surgical procedures.Prepare and dispense prescription medication according to veterinarian instructions.Assist clients in solving common husbandry problems.Assist the facility in obtaining local credentialing for surgical, anesthetic, dental, and diagnostic procedures as required by patient load and clinic staffing.Qualifications:Animal Health Assistant (Full Performance), NF-03: A minimum of six (6) months demonstrated experience directly related to the duties required in the position in a Veterinary Medical setting, demonstrating knowledge, clinical skills, and abilities essential for successful performance in accordance with AVMA guidelines.Demonstrated experience includes:Proficiency in basic medical terminology and sterile techniques.Applying appropriate restraint techniques for routine medical and diagnostic procedures.Proficiency in recording medical history and treatment in ccSOAP (Chief Complaint Subjective Objective Assessment Plan).Explaining product information and/or treatment plans to clients as directed by the Veterinarian.Determining preventive wellness plans, including required medical treatments and vaccinations based on patient medical history.Utilizing in-house laboratory equipment for diagnostic tests and conducting routine maintenance on it.Preparing samples for shipment to outside laboratories.Best Qualified: Possess or have the ability to reactivate/obtain a registration, license, or certification as a veterinary assistant or higher through an accredited program.
Basic supply management experience is preferred.Education and Additional Information:Area of Consideration: U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S.
Territory for three (3) or more continuous years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.Salary Information: Salary is pro-rated based on a 40-hour work week and will be determined based on grade level qualified.
Hourly salary is: NF-03 $16.00ph to $17.15ph.Employment Category: Flexible/Intermittent (00), guaranteed hours per week; may be scheduled to work between 0-40 hours per week based on mission needs.Note: Additional referrals may be made from this vacancy announcement for up to 90 days after the closing date.
