We are seeking to recruit a research assistant for the development of the project 'MultiLX: Strategies to strengthen European linguistic capital in a globalised world' of the IdentiCat research group of the Arts and Humanities Department of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
The aim of the project is to collect data to inform language policy in Europe.
It will explore the effects of the mobility of people across territories and how this has altered the linguistic composition of Europe.
It will also examine the effects of AI and other digital technologies on the way we communicate to better inform EU language policy on how to respond to these changes.
It will address the challenges facing an increasingly diverse, digital and multilingual Europe and how language policies can be used to shape an inclusive, democratic and equitable future for Europe's young people.
The project examines how young people use languages (such as Catalan, Galician, Irish, Irish-English, Faroese, Kven, Rosemary, Scots, Sami and dialects or varieties of German, such as Swiss-German) in several European countries (Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland), focusing on their communication in digital contexts (online games), creative arts, education, sport and everyday activities.
The UOC case study focuses on the context of youth sport in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, with special attention to gender issues.
Responsibilities: Conduct ethnographic research, analyse and interpret the data obtained, including observation, interviews, audio recording, video recording and collection of digital and online material.Develop contacts and working relationships with the collaborating NGO, as well as with sports clubs and other non-academic partners involved in the project.Review relevant scientific production on the project topic in a targeted manner.Manage data, using word processing (Google and Meet environment), database and qualitative software, including transcription of multilingual data.Contribute to the communication strategy and impact of the research, including the organisation of meetings, workshops, conferences and seminars.Write research reports (in Catalan, English and Spanish) for publication for various audiences, including policy makers.Disseminate research results at conferences, research seminars and policy events.Apply knowledge to develop new intellectual knowledge.Contribute to knowledge transfer in academic, community and policy environments.Contribute to the development of innovative research techniques and methods.Carry out research-derived administration.Contribute to activities related to research and project administration.Address problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and timelines.
The successful candidate will be awarded a temporary 2-year full-time contract, starting in March 2025.
The reference headquarters will be located at 22@, Rambla del Poblenou, 156, in Barcelona.
