We are looking for a Senior Site Suitability Engineer to join the OPEA Project Engineering Europe South team and support our onshore wind projects with main focus in new developments, repowering and lifetime extensions in Spain, Italy and Australia.Our Site Suitability Engineers are part of a global Site Suitability community of engineers located across the globe.
The team provides holistic technical assessment to enable the business to select the most competitive turbine technologies.
They are, together with the Wind Turbine Engineers, the internal experts regarding OEM landscapes and wind turbine developments.ResponsibilitiesPerform site suitability assessments and lifetime assessments, including load and fatigue lifetime assessment and Wind Sector Management (WSM) assessment; manage related tasks and collaborate with the Engineer Coordinators.Independent assessment of site conditions under consideration of all project requirements and timelines, especially regarding the suitability of using competitive wind turbine technology to maximize yields and minimize costs of energy.Review the quality of the Site Suitability Report (SSR) / Mechanical Load Analysis (MLA) received from the OEMs and share the outcome with key internal stakeholders (Resource Assessment, Acoustics).Perform site visits, collect information from developing sites and operating sites with site suitability issues.Support the Wind Turbine Technology Engineering team in specific tasks (including wind turbine due diligence, failure rate assessment, power curve assessment) and collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders (Development, Resource Assessment) and external stakeholders (OEMs, certification bodies, consultants).Depending on the RWE wind turbine procurement strategy, pre-select wind turbines suitable for the site and establish a wind turbine shortlist.Application and further development of relevant in-house standards, tools, techniques and processes within the area of responsibility, engage and lead RD initiatives.Depending on the RWE wind turbine procurement strategy, take ownership for further development of wind turbine load calculation competence within the team.QualificationsSuccessfully completed university studies in an engineering discipline (or comparable).Comprehensive specialist knowledge and several years of relevant professional experience in site suitability assessment, preferably from working for a turbine OEM.Good knowledge of wind yield assessment, wind turbine concepts, wind turbine lifetime assessments, CFD software, openWind, WindPRO and Windographer.Programming skills (Python, VBA, Matlab) are an advantage.Hands-on experience in wind turbine load calculation (onshore) is an advantage.Experience in working within international project organizations.Extensive knowledge of international rules and regulations applicable to wind turbines, such as the IEC61400 series, DNV GL standards, etc.Fluent oral and written communication skills in English; Spanish and/or Italian is an advantage.Excellent organizational skills, ability to maintain confidentiality.Willingness to travel based on tasks, both nationally and internationally (expected travel time in general 25%).Any questions?
