We are motivated by a dedication to scientific discovery and collaboration that will one day help eliminate cancer as a cause of death.Location flexible: Can be based in Mississauga (CN), Gaithersburg, Waltham (US), Macclesfield (UK) or Barcelona (SP).Position SummaryThis leadership role will work across Oncology R&D (ORD) to define the overall approach, roadmap, and implementation plans for scientific communications and engagement activities for the Functions.Your role as the Senior Director, Scientific Communications and Engagement Lead for Oncology R&D will be to strengthen AZ's reputation for scientific leadership in the ORD space by developing and executing communications strategies targeting priority internal and external audiences, including milestones from disease area understanding through clinical trial results. The selected lead will also manage the learning & development and resource allocation of the individuals deployed to support these efforts. You and your team will amplify our science story and work closely with senior scientists and senior leaders on the leadership and project teams. The lead will also be Joint Chair of the Comms Network working to ensure close collaboration with the ORD Global Corporate Affairs (GCA) team.Key ResponsibilitiesDefine the overall approach, roadmap and plan for scientific communication and engagement for the Oncology R&D (ORD).Lead the team in the development of a scientific messaging framework and provide communications support and coaching to ORD Leadership regarding communicating scientific messages, in close collaboration with GCA colleagues.Lead the team in the identification, development and timely and impactful delivery of science content and engagement activities relevant for internal and external audiences.Manage a team of 15+ individuals focusing on learning and development, knowledge sharing, prioritization of activities and resource allocation.Establish measures of success and implement relevant evaluation tools for all communications and engagement activities.Work with BPOs and ORD LT members to understand requirements and ensure that teams receive the service and support they need within agreed Service Level Agreements.Coordinate cross-functional change programmes in partnership with Global Corporate Affairs.Support one of the ORD functions or groups.Basic QualificationsBS/BA and 10+ years of relevant healthcare product communications experience.Prior experience in a strategic communications or engagement role.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Previous line management experience of matrix teams.Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific information into effective and compelling communication appropriate for the audience level.Strong influencing, networking and team working skills.A proven track record of delivering tasks in a timely manner.Strong analytical skills and the ability to present results and influence stakeholders.Experience in the development and implementation of timely and impactful internal communications/awareness programs that contribute to employee engagement and brand awareness.Good knowledge of the pharmaceutical drug discovery and development process.Desirable RequirementsResource planning and management for teams.Establishing Service Level Agreements with stakeholders and performance vs agreed levels.Experience in the development of messaging frameworks and providing communications support and coaching to Leadership regarding communicating TA scientific messages.Communications Agency experience.AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company and our innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide.
