Location: Valencia (preferred), Madrid The role of the Solar Engineering Manager Iberia is to represent the totality of solar engineering activities within a designated country or region.
As a Solar Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in developing, constructing, and optimising the design of our ground-mounted solar PV projects.
Your main focus will be to manage a team of project engineers who are responsible for solar projects from green field development to technical support to O&M, being also in charge of the detailed engineering during the construction phase mainly in Spain.
However, you will also support projects internationally as part of an international solar engineering team and other technologies.
Responsibilities: Manage the solar engineering team, distributing workload, supporting engineers, setting up deadlines and priorities.
Technical evaluation of sites via site visits and investigations.
Review design drawings for Solar PV and hybrid solar PV + storage systems.
Select and process solar irradiation and albedo datasets.
Check energy yield estimation and uncertainty analysis.
Conduct detailed electrical system sizing calculations and produce concept electrical single line diagrams.
Produce preliminary Bills of Quantities.
Undertake design health & safety risk assessments.
Provide engineering supervision during construction according to design.
Main interface to Asset Owner and the project development teams in-country.
Contribute to and share responsibility for the country business strategy and value creation.
Manage a portfolio of projects to ensure successful outcomes and ensure the required resources are in place to support the business.
Ensure excellent coordination with Asset Owner(s) and the in-country development teams by providing expertise and technical capacity as required for projects during early development stages.
Coordinate technical development support across all project types.
Ensure involvement and use of resources from central PDU functions (Technical Management, PMO, HSSE), Procurement and Legal to support projects.
Assume role of Project Manager, Programme Manager or delegated Project Owner's Representative as per Statkraft Project Governance and Capital Project Model as required.
Qualifications: Master's Degree in electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, industrial, energy engineering, physics or any other relevant discipline.
At least 8 years' work experience designing ground-mounted solar PV plants and ideally 4 years managing a team.
Expert user of AutoCAD, PVSyst and at least one utility-scale specialist PV design software package.
Fluent in Spanish and English.
Battery storage design experience.
Experience in preparing specifications for solar project procurement, construction, commissioning or operation.
Experience and knowledge in relevant Spanish design codes, regulations and policy.
Curious and pro-actively seeking out opportunities for new innovations in solar system design and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong attention to detail and appreciation of standardisation and quality control.
Self-starter, taking responsibility for planning and managing day-to-day work.
Thrives on a collaborative approach to knowledge sharing and working with local teams and remote, international networks of staff.
Ability to travel regularly within Spain (once a month).
