Two PhD Contracts in Molecular and Cellular Biology Applied to AquacultureLocation: Barcelona, Spain | Full TimeWe have recently been awarded the project entitled: Towards the sustainable production of more robust and resilient juvenile sea bass in a climate change scenario, from the Knowledge Generation Projects program, of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The team is made up of Drs. J. Blasco and J. Gutiérrez as PIs and Drs. D. Garcia de la Serrana and J. Chillaron as researchers, from the Department of Cellular Biology, Physiology and Immunology of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona.
The project has been endowed with a predoctoral contract (FPI), whose call for applications will be published at the beginning of September with a delivery deadline between September 9 and 29.
The thesis begins with in vitro work with sea bass myocytes to test different products, which will later be applied to the diet of fry in combination with swimming activity, to obtain optimal growth even under climate change conditions.
RequirementsWe have also been awarded the collaborative project: Integrative breeding strategies for the transition of EUropean AQUAculture towards sustainable ORGanic production (EUAqua.Org), from the European Union Call: [HORIZON-CL6-2024-BIODIV-01].
The team is made up of Drs. J. Gutiérrez, D. García de la Serrana, and M. Martin-Perez, from the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology of the Faculty of Biology (University of Barcelona).
The project has been endowed with a predoctoral contract, whose call will be published at the beginning of September with an incorporation date of January 1st, 2025.
The project consists of applying stable isotopes methodologies to estimate physiological status in individual fish (feed efficiency, protein/lipid deposition…) which can be correlated with genetic parameters for breeding purposes. Additionally, novel organic diets for aquaculture will be characterized using physiological, genetic, and isotopic approaches. The project will be carried out in salmon and sea bream species.
Both projects fit into our line of research, which has been consolidated in recent years, and we also have the collaboration of leading international companies in the sector.
