We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to work with the UX Design team, combining innovation and usability to contribute to the creation of the world's leading design ecosystem from a product perspective. While this is an individual contributor role, you'll have the opportunity to direct and mentor junior designers and take initiative to lead projects.OverviewIn this role you will create experiences that engage and appeal to customers, enhance our usability and improve the user experience through the use of imagery, color, shapes, typography, and form, ensuring our experiences appear trustworthy, informative and true to our brand. The ideal candidate should have a passion for user-centric design and the tools and processes that make it happen. Your expertise should bring an understanding of component based design and design systems to contribute to a scalable, sustainable approach that enables speed to market, evolution, and optimization. This will be a highly collaborative role requiring partnerships with SMEs, Editorial, UX Architecture, Engineering, Customer Insights and Product. The Lead UX Designer will report to the Senior Manager, UX Design.Responsibilities:Bring industry best practices and visual design principles to your solutions.Create solutions that meet both customer needs and business objectives.Collaborate with UX Architects on optimizing the user flow and overall experience.Create visual concepts that communicate the overall vision and approach for a project, developing the overall look and feel and delivering final designs.Optimize experiences by strategically implementing images, colors, fonts, and other elements in order to enhance a design or interaction, and engage users.Contribute to the creation of visual patterns in our design system.Maintain brand consistency while designing new products and experiences.Explore and validate solutions by creating prototypes for and actively participating in user testing.Incorporate recommendations and analysis from our Customer Intelligence and UX Research teams.Coordinate on ensuring we meet requirements for accessibility.Independently deliver on projects and work with others on teams.Be able to function as a UX lead for a project, independently organize and deliver on small to medium size projects, including detailed execution, approvals and stakeholder acceptance.Lead others in setting direction and scoping work accurately even with ambiguous, loosely defined project.Serve as an advocate for our readers, keeping their needs at the heart of our digital solutions.Required Skill Set:5 -7 years experience in a similar role.Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.Strong grasp of UI, HCI, Accessibility and UX principles.Experience working on mobile, web-based and responsive design.Expertise with component based design.Expertise working with Design Systems.Experience working with Agile.Expertise working with Figma.A strong portfolio that demonstrates your experience and UX skills, with clear examples of deliverables that illustrate step by step solutions for features.Ability to lead and take initiatives, balancing strategic goals with daily tactical opportunities.Ability to present design work and supporting thinking effectively to stakeholders and senior leadership for review and feedback, in person and in written communications.Plus:Experience in the design of News or Financial Services.Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and compliance.Reasonable accommodation: Dow Jones, Making Careers Newsworthy - We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
