Position Overview: IE University's School of Science and Technology is seeking an exceptional candidate for a full-time faculty position in Data Science with a specialization in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Machine Learning applied to biological data. We look for candidates who can integrate advanced computational techniques with biotechnology to address challenges in areas like genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, personalized medicine, and systems biology. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data-driven approaches to biological research, including machine learning and AI applications in bioinformatics, the analysis of DNA/RNA sequences, and the study of large-scale biological datasets. This position is perfect for a data scientist passionate about advancing biotechnology through computational methods and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
We value candidates with the capacity to collaborate in applied research projects led by the Impact Xcelerator at IE School of Science and Technology, specifically in one of the three focus areas: Climate/Energy, Healthcare, or Financial Systems. The ability to contribute to multidisciplinary research initiatives that apply cutting-edge technologies to real-world challenges in these sectors will be key to the role's success, providing opportunities to work closely with industry partners and stakeholders to drive innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities: Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in topics such as Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, AI in Biomedicine, and Machine Learning for Biological Systems. Lead high-impact research projects in areas such as genomic analysis, systems biology, computational proteomics, and drug discovery using machine learning and AI, while actively securing competitive research funds. Collaborate with other faculty members and industry partners to develop innovative solutions for real-world problems in biotechnology, healthcare, and personalized medicine. Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students, guiding them in research involving biological datasets and computational modeling. Design innovative curricula that focus on experiential learning and the integration of biological sciences with advanced computational tools. Engage in academic service and play a role in the strategic development of the School of Science and Technology. Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Genomics, or a closely related field. Demonstrated research excellence in bioinformatics, computational genomics, systems biology, or AI/machine learning applications in biological research.
