Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people's quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is seeking a Technical Officer to join the Drug Screening Platform. At the Drug Screening Platform (DSP), we support Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery projects. Our expert team provides tailored experimental support for a wide range of targets and technologies during the Candidate Discovery phase, from High-Throughput Screening (HTS) to Lead Optimisation.
At IRB Barcelona, we have set up a screening platform with state-of-the-art technology, which allows HTS and provides support for Hit to Lead and Lead Optimisation projects in an efficient and automated way.
Currently, we are expanding our facility in order to support the scientific community and move the science a step forward to the discovery of new medicines.
This position is under the framework of the INVESTIGO Programme for recruitment of young job seekers to carry out research and innovation – Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. Desirable: Experience: More than 3 years in drug discovery in pharma/biotech/academic research. Experience with assay development, High Throughput Screening (HTS) and compound profiling for both, biochemical and cellular assays. Familiar with a wide range of targets (enzymes, PPis, GPCRs etc) and technologies (Alpha, HTRF, FP, luminescence, etc). Familiar with HTS sample processing, data generation, data interpretation and data reporting. Familiar with HTS equipment (Echo650, multidrop, pipettors, readers, workstations such as CellExplorer etc) Knowledge: on drug discovery processes, screening equipment and technologies and a wide range of protein targets, and on how to address the assay development for each one. WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS: Working conditions: Contract linked to the INVESTIGO Programme, to allocate young people in search of a job in the research field, under the framework project: "Pla de Recuperació, Transformació i Resiliència". Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract.
