.Please apply to the job through the BSC job portal https://www.Bsc.Es/join-us/job-opportunities/26224lsltre3Context And MissionThe Language Technologies Unit at BSC has a consolidated experience in several NLP areas, such as massive language model building, biomedical text mining, machine translation and unsupervised learning for under-resourced languages and domains. It has been entrusted by the Spanish and the Catalan government, with the mission to develop fundamental open-source resources and technologies for Spanish and Catalan. In connection with this, the LT Unit is currently in charge of three flagship projects at the national and regional level: the Spanish National Language Technology Plan and ILENIA funded by the Spanish Secretariat of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence; and the AINA project, aimed at developing AI resources for Catalan, funded by the Catalan Digitalisation Department. In addition, the Unit participates in various EU funded international projects.The LT Unit at BSC is looking for a Team Leader of Machine Learning with experience in Language Technologies, specifically in Deep Learning applied to speech processing and possible large language model building.The successful candidate will work in a highly sophisticated HPC environment, lead a young team of motivated ML engineers, will have access to state-of-the-art systems and computational infrastructures, and will establish collaborations with experts in different areas both at the local and international levels.Key DutiesLead a team of ML engineers, data engineers and computational linguistsDetermine the priorities of the teamExternalize work if necessary, writing requirement documents and managing the work of the external providersEnsure that the successful delivery of the resultsRepresent the speech team in the coordination meetings of the unitMentor team members for career growthApply for research projectsWrite research papersRequirementsEducationMaster's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Applied linguistics or related disciplinesPhD preferableEssential Knowledge and Professional ExperienceDemonstrated experience of at least 2 years in leading engineering teams in the relevant area(s).Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years in deep learning frameworks and in the relevant area(s).Published papers on deep learning, specifically in speech.Experience in project managementExperience in managing product development from ideation to deliveryKnowledge on version control tools, and MLOps best practices.Additional Knowledge and Professional ExperienceExperience in development of text-to-speech modelsDemonstrated experience in developing open source software and resourcesNative or good level of spoken and written English, Spanish and CatalanStrong understanding of linguistic concepts.CompetencesAbility to work in a team to complete tasks on schedule
