We are expanding our Grid Consultancy business, and we are now looking for a Team Leader/Principal Power Systems Engineer to lead and build our European Grid Team. The role will be assigned to one of our European offices in Spain, the UK or the Netherlands, with a hybrid, flexible working approach. You will join a global close-knit team of exceptional power systems engineers working on a wide range of projects in (but not limited to) solar, wind, BESS, and hydro. In the role of Team Leader/Principal Power Systems Engineer you will:
Lead, grow and develop the Europe based Power and Grid Consultancy Team. Drive the delivery of Power Systems studies primarily in Europe. Work on studies that will range from connection feasibility studies for renewable energy developers, to support for ISOs / utilities with detailed static and dynamic connection studies, to other power systems studies involved in the integration or DG and augmentation of power grids. The studies and modelling tasks could include: Power flow analysis (contingency analysis). Short circuit analysis. Model development and tuning. Transient stability analysis. Generator interconnection studies. AC network reduction. Insulation coordination. Breaker TRV. Switching studies. Sub-synchronous oscillations. Harmonics studies. Prepare comprehensive study reports. Lead a team of power system engineers to perform power system studies and/or individually perform studies. Prepare deliverables of exceptional quality within the agreed parameters in a defined format and within an agreed timescale. Project manage individual projects and oversight /management of the Barcelona office team's portfolio of projects. Develop business opportunities by establishing external network in many contexts, e.g., through client contact during execution of project work and attendance at client meetings or through industry events. Share knowledge and mentor colleagues as appropriate, providing technical leadership within the team. Lead the technical development of the European Power System Team and be involved with the recruitment and building of a local team. Be involved with business development and marketing activities including attendance at forums and involvement in industry presentations. To be successful in the role we are looking for you to have the following:
At a minimum bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. A postgraduate (master's or PhD) advantageous. A strong background in power system studies, preferably with knowledge in renewables, HVDC and FACTS. A record of accomplishment in leading a team of engineers and developing and building high performing teams. Proven knowledge and experience in performing power systems studies and grid connection studies. Understanding of HVDC and FACTS and inverter-based generation control systems is beneficial. Demonstrated experience with power system simulation tool PSSE and PSCAD, including Python scripting. Experience with other power system simulation tools such as PSLF, ETAP, SINCAL, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, MATLAB and other similar study tools also beneficial. Exceptional communication skills, including both writing and public speaking/presenting. English fluency is a requirement to work with our global clients. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively explain and discuss solutions with customers. A high level of self-motivation and able to collaborate harmoniously with a group of professional engineers. Demonstrable project management skills. The ability to develop relationships with clients and to manage client expectations in challenging situations. What we can offer you:
