The Role
At Matrix Renewables, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tax Manager to join our team. The Tax Manager will be responsible for providing internal tax advice, advising on indirect taxes, assisting in M&A, and restructuring activities, preparing tax reporting documentation, and analyzing international tax regulations to anticipate their impact on the Group's business model. The candidate will report to both the CFO and the Matrix controller and will benefit from working with all departments within Matrix.
Key activities and responsibilities:
Work with the Finance Department to ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and other business-related filings.
Coordinate and manage external tax advisors to ensure compliance with global tax regulations.
Work with advisors and different departments to develop and implement tax strategies while ensuring alignment with the company's overall financial goals.
Advise management on the impact of new tax laws and proposed legislation on the company's operations and financial position.
Identify and pursue tax incentives, credits, and grants that may benefit the company, particularly in renewable energy sectors.
Provide tax support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and corporate restructurings, including due diligence, structuring, and integration.
Collaborate with the legal and finance teams to structure transactions in a tax-efficient manner.
Analyze and advise on the tax implications of international operations, including cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, and tax treaty benefits.
Advise on indirect taxes such as VAT and customs duties, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations in all jurisdictions.
Support the implementation of systems and processes for indirect tax compliance and reporting.
Support the Finance Team during the annual audits process, working closely with external advisors.
Maintain comprehensive documentation to support tax positions and minimize risks in audits.
Cross-functional collaboration by working closely with finance, legal, development, and operational teams to provide tax-related insights and ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.
Identify and manage tax risks, ensuring that the company's tax policies and procedures are in line with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement internal controls to mitigate tax risks and ensure compliance.
Oversee the tax compliance requirements and internal controls.
Lead the coordination and facilitate local tax filings and tax payments across multiple jurisdictions internally and with external providers.
General Skills / Attributes:
Prior experience (at least 5 years) in tax departments in firms or in-house roles.
Prior experience in Renewables / Infrastructure / Energy sector with knowledge of renewable energy technologies, project finance, and regulatory frameworks.
Full written and oral fluency in English; other languages a plus with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
Familiarity with international tax, direct and indirect taxes, and M&A processes.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and optimize processes for efficiency.
Degree in Accounting, Law, Economics, or Business Administration; a master's in taxation would be advantageous.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional project management and organizational skills. Evidence of managing complex workloads across a portfolio of projects would be an added benefit.
