Description
Associate - Aviation Market Based Measures and Carbon Markets Are you looking for a new opportunity to make the aviation industry more sustainable?
We currently have an exciting opening for an individual who understands the complexities of the carbon policies and regulations that apply in an aviation context at regional and international level. This role will be focused on assessing and supporting compliance with the ETS, CORSIA, and other emerging schemes. The role will also focus on supporting alignment between regulatory compliance and voluntary goals.
This role sits within our dedicated Sustainable Aviation team, part of the Aviation, Travel and Tourism consulting division, and would offer a range of opportunities to contribute to projects across the wider division.
This position has the potential to be based in London or Spain.
What we do: Decarbonising aviation is essential but complex, and we work across the industry to develop the technologies, organisations and policies needed to achieve this ambition. The next decade is key, with companies across the industry implementing sustainability strategies, supported by rapidly improving technologies, regulations, and a clear recognition of the need for change.
We help clients to navigate this complex, evolving landscape. Our work spans the design and evaluation of policies, development of pragmatic sustainability strategies, and detailed implementation of sustainability initiatives. Our clients include many of the companies leading the transition - and many others seeking to accelerate their journey to more sustainable operations. Our team brings leading knowledge and experience in key areas – from sustainable fuels to carbon markets and the circular economy – and we work as an integrated part of the wider ICF team, leveraging our extensive experience in climate research, renewable energy, sustainable finance, and many other areas.
Our experience has been gained through decades of work towards a more sustainable future, and we're proud to work alongside our aviation clients to achieve a sustainable, connected world: ICF: 50+ years of impact.
The skills and knowledge we're looking for: An understanding of the functioning of market-based measures that apply to the aviation sector and their regulatory frameworks (EU ETS, UK ETS, CORSIA). Knowledge of emission monitoring and accounting methodologies in the aviation sector. Good working knowledge of the role of SAF to reduce compliance obligations in regulatory schemes. Knowledge of global compliance and voluntary carbon markets. Enthusiasm to drive the decarbonisation of the aviation industry, and an understanding of the associated challenges and opportunities. Bachelor's degree or higher in Economics, Engineering, Climate, Sustainability, or related fields. A demonstrated ability to write high-quality reports, conduct robust assessments, and deliver engaging in-person presentations. Ability to work in a team to deliver effective solutions to complex problems, against budget and timescale constraints. Overall experience of at least 2-4 years in relevant fields. How you will make an impact: Deliver sustainability projects with governments, airlines, and companies across the aviation value chain. Work in detail on initiatives, including developing strategies, building analyses, researching, writing, and presenting reports, and coordinating teams. Support business development by promoting ICF's leading position for aviation sustainability services, including activities such as building relationships, contributing to insightful articles, and attending conferences. The strengths and behaviours required: Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Motivated and takes responsibility to deliver high-quality and useful work. Ability to prioritise and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information. If you're interested and have the knowledge, skills, and experience highlighted above, we would love to hear from you!
