Position: Support Technician for the Microscopy Platform, High Technology Unit VHIR offers a position for a specialised technician within the Microscopy Platform of the High Technology Unit (UAT). UAT belongs to the VHIR pre-clinical core-facilities, providing highly specialised equipment along with scientific and technical expertise to assist researchers in experimental design and data analysis. Specifically, the Microscopy Platform offers different tools to carry out the observation of both fixed and live samples with optical microscopy. UAT offers training in the independent operation of the equipment, assistance during the performance of experimental techniques, as well as support in experimental design and image analysis.

JOB DESCRIPTION Education and qualifications: Required: University Degree in Health/Life Sciences. Master's Degree and/or PhD related to biomedical research. Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, English (B2 level or equivalent). Desired: Master's Degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, oriented to image analysis. Experience and knowledge: Required: Previous experience working in a microscopy core-facility, using widefield and confocal microscopes at operator level (1-year minimum). Demonstrable experience in cell culture and sample preparation techniques used in optical microscopy. Demonstrable experience in acquisition and image analysis software. Specific training in image analysis programming with R, Python, ImageJ. Informatic general skills at a user level. Self-motivated, proactive, rigorous and organised person. Self-reliant, able to work independently but also good team player. Strong customer-orientation, good communication skills. Flexibility to adapt to changes and eagerness to learn from new situations. Desired: Experience working under a quality management system (preferably ISO9001:2015, other quality systems will also be valued). Experience using microscopes similar to those offered by the UAT (more information available in the VHIR webpage) at operator level. Main responsibilities and duties: The main responsibility of the selected candidate will be to support the Microscopy Platform specific activities, such as: To support the facility users in all kind of issues related to microscopy: experimental design, budgeting, technical performance and image analysis. Initial training and on-demand assistance to self-service users. Implementation of SOPs. During technician-assisted services, to establish the proper settings and to handle image capture and processing, including further data management and transference of results to users. To develop new protocols and applications, as required by service users (including new protocols or pipelines for automated image analysis). Management and registration of the preventive and corrective maintenance of the equipment, under the established quality procedures. Management of breakdowns through external technical assistance services. To control the consumable materials stock and to purchase them when required. To write technical documentation (standard operating procedures, instructions for use of the UAT equipment, etc.) and prepare support material for user training. To attend the training activities required to properly perform the assigned services. To support other UAT Platforms services, when needed. To carry out the administrative and general operating tasks required for the general functioning of the UAT services, for example service request management, purchasing and maintaining stocks of reagents, provide information about microscopy services to the Head of Unit when required. To work under the quality management system ISO9001:2015 established as a standard in the UAT. To participate in UAT/VHIR teaching or educational activities. Labour conditions: Full-time position: 40h/week. Starting date: November 2024. Gross annual salary: remuneration will depend on experience and skills. Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale. Contract: Open-ended contract linked to scientific-technical services. What can we offer?
