Job purpose As a Staff Data Engineer you will lead the design and development of scalable data pipelines. In this role, you will keep the data team cohesive, define and maintain a clear technical strategy, and build a long-term architecture for the data function within the company. The team is currently embedded within various cross-functional squads such as Marketing, Supply, Web or Operations.
Main job responsibilities are: Define and Communicate Technical Vision: Lead the development and communication of the data team's technical vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's goals and evolving needs. Data Infrastructure & Architecture Oversight: Provide guidance on the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, efficient data infrastructure and pipelines that support key business functions. Set Technical Standards: Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, security, and quality across the organisation, ensuring consistency in how data is managed, processed, and utilised. Innovate and Adopt New Technologies: Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies, driving the adoption of innovative tools and methodologies that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data operations. Technical Problem-Solving: Serve as the go-to expert for solving complex technical challenges within the data domain, providing hands-on support when necessary. Collaboration with Engineering Teams: Partner with engineering and development teams to ensure data solutions are integrated seamlessly into the company's technology stack and that cross-team technical efforts are aligned. Develop and implement a clear, long-term technical strategy for the data team, ensuring consistency in data practices across the organisation. Mentorship & Professional Development: Provide mentorship and career development opportunities to the data team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning. What you will bring Experience collaborating with distributed teams across multiple business functions. Strong technical background in data engineering, analytics, or related fields. Familiarity with modern data technologies, tools, and best practices in data infrastructure, analytics, and reporting (AWS, Snowflake, Airbyte, dbt, Looker). Strong understanding of distributed systems and asynchronous programming (e.g., Kafka, Apache Beam, Airflow). Extensive experience with data infrastructure and pipelines, data governance, and implementing best practices for data quality, security, and scalability. Strong understanding of modern data technologies (e.g., cloud platforms, big data processing frameworks, ETL tools) and programming languages such as Python, Go, SQL. Proficiency in AI-driven approaches to improve internal processes, optimise data workflows, and develop smarter strategies. Good organizational and communication skills, with the ability to balance strategic vision and day-to-day execution. Experience in mentoring and developing teams to achieve their full potential. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. What We Offer: Permanent contract. Immediate incorporation.
