Sr. Specialist, Public Affairs & RelationsJOB PURPOSE Specialist that in close cooperation with the Sr. Manager Government Relations EU analyses and advocates (preferably in alignment with other external stakeholders, e.g. industry associations) on EU and National policies, identifies threats and opportunities to SABIC, engages with internal stakeholders in order to prepare SABIC position for the transition from a linear to circular and climate neutral economy in Europe and to secure compliance with these policies.
Specialist on matters that:
Policies: impact cross-regional strategies, product strategies, industry associations and company messaging on critical related business topics such as policy interpretation and new policy.
Current legislation on plastic policies, environmental protection policies (Pellet loss, OCS, maritime transport, marine litter…), substances of concern (BPA, PFAS…) are reviewed that could affect SABIC's operations, competitiveness and market access in Europe.
Engage with industry associations (Plastics Europe, PCEP, VNCI…) and other platforms on key issues to promote and enhance a legislative framework that is favorable to SABIC's operations and business in Europe.
Leverage for maximum effectiveness of SABIC's European and National presence in legislative and regulatory arena with regard to plastics circularity and climate protection issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES Support SABIC's European strategy ensuring that SABIC's long-term interests are considered against short-term gains. Align this strategy with key internal stakeholders, monitor and review performance against it.Maintain and develop deep and extensive regulatory and market intelligence expertise ensuring appropriate relationships with industry peers, regulators, consultants and market reporters in order to develop models and scenarios of future policy and market developments on SABIC regarding regulation and governmental policies on sustainable industry operations and products.Understand how current regulatory developments on plastics will influence other key segments (Automotive, B&C, E&E, Healthcare) in Europe and will impact other regions important to SABIC.Ensure active representation and participation in trade associations e.g., Plastics Europe / BPF / NRK or voluntary platforms and share with relevant functional leadership (Corporate Affairs, Supply Chain, Product Stewardship, EHSS, Manufacturing, Business, legal) regarding developments and assess impact on SABIC's business.Active advocacy outreach at EU and NL level. Visiting frequently European and National politicians, ministries and relevant governmental bodies to make SABIC position heard in close alignment with Sr. Manager Government Relations.Support the development of SABIC's agenda on major developments in the areas of plastics and climate regulation and legislation, ensuring that SABIC's position is developed, aligned and agreed with the key stakeholders.Prepare SABIC's response and position with respect to key national and regional environmental related consultations ensuring that SABIC's position and views are understood by external stakeholders and seek to influence the proposed outcome for the benefits of SABIC.Support Director Government Relations in his outreach in Brussels & Den Hague.MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor degree in a relevant science, engineering, Industry and Plastic Policies or related field.5-10 years' experience within product, chemicals & plastics or a related sector.Significant experience in commodity, financial and compliance risk management activities and strategy development.Highly developed influencing skills.A breadth in knowledge and understanding of the chemicals & plastic businesses, including key process and value generating characteristics.Knowledge of SABIC Operations and Value Drivers.A sales and/or technical/scientific background would be beneficial.Results driven, goal orientated working style.Experience in working with people with different cultures and background.English Fluency, other Languages are a plus.FURTHER INFORMATION Interested in this position?
