The Coordinator of the Spanish Language Program is expected to support, execute, and promote this commitment and all NYU initiatives (including Affordability, Sustainability, and Student Success) in the day-to-day life of NYU Madrid, with primary responsibility over the site's Spanish Language program.
The holder of this full-time 12-month position will oversee the academic programming of the Spanish language courses and will teach in the NYU Madrid study away program.
The holder of this position reports to the Assistant Director of Academics of NYU Madrid and to the Resident Director.
This role requires both administrative work and teaching, and will include: Coordinating the site's Spanish language courses (typically about 20 per semester, in Fall and Spring, 6-8 in Summer).
In collaboration with the Academic team, coordinating, developing, and overseeing co-curricular activities connected to the Spanish language courses and immersive language experiences.
Developing and mentoring faculty.
Teaching a maximum of 3 courses per academic year (fall, spring, and summer); this task includes office hours and course preparation.
A key focus of the position is to ensure the effective delivery of excellence in the Spanish language program that is consistent with NYU's leadership in international higher education.
The student body includes first-year, advanced standing, and visiting students from other institutions.
The salary range is between 48-57K.
Qualifications: Required Education: Minimum BA or equivalent in Second Language acquisition or related field.
Post-graduate coursework or degree in a relevant field preferred.
Required Experience: A strong candidate must have 5+ years of experience teaching at the university level, particularly with students from the US.
Experience coordinating or running a language program or multi-section courses is a strong plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
Proven cultural sensitivity and conversational skills to communicate appropriately with a multinational, multicultural, and multireligious audience of academics and administrators.
Knowledge of standard office software including Microsoft Office suite and online and traditional packages (e.g., Google Docs).
Fluent in Spanish (written and oral) near-native speaker level.
Fluent in English (written and oral).
Legally eligible to work in Spain.
Preferred Experience: Knowledge of NYU, its values, and vision.
Experience in an academic environment with prior experience mentoring faculty.
Experience in U.S. and/or Spanish higher education.
