In this role, you will be responsible for processing and integrating various geospatial data sources to create high-quality marine maps for our customers.
Our geospatial tooling and pipelines are built on open-source technologies (OSM, QGIS, PostGIS, GDAL, Mapbox stack, etc.).
You will be extending existing tools and building new ones.Key Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain data processing pipelines using Python, Node.js, and other relevant technologiesImplement high-performance, scalable solutions for processing large volumes of geospatial data, including: Official S57 data from hydrographic offices Point cloud data from multi-beam sonar surveys User-collected depth measurements Other crowdsourced spatial dataImplement GIS data management best practices to ensure data integrity and reliabilityCollaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data processing systems with our marine mapping applicationsContinuously improve our data processing architecture, methodologies, and code baseStay current with software engineering best practices and emerging technologies in big data processing and GISRequired Qualifications:5+ years of professional software engineering experienceStrong programming skills in Python and Node.jsExperience working with geospatial databases, mainly PostGISDemonstrated ability to design and implement efficient, scalable data pipelinesExperience with parallel computing and optimizing code for multi-core processorsStrong understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practicesProficiency in Linux/Unix environments and shell scriptingExperience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelinesAbility to write efficient, well-documented code and scriptsStrong problem-solving and analytical skills, and attention to detailAbility to write clean, efficient, and well-documented codeExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesWhat Sets You Apart:A strong portfolio of coding projects or open-source contributions related to data processing or GISProven track record of building and maintaining production-grade data pipelinesExperience in optimizing algorithms for processing large geospatial datasetsAbility to write high-performance code, when necessary, using C++ or equivalentKnowledge of machine learning techniques for geospatial data analysisWhat we offerWorking at Orca means working on interesting and challenging problems while having a direct impact on the people who use our products.
