Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data–structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We are in the process of integrating our disparate products into Azure Synapse Analytics with a set of experiences that are meant to simplify and accelerate time to value.
We are looking for engineers to lead the development of the core components of the Cloud Data Warehouse that powers SQL analytics in Azure compute. You will work in areas related to query optimization, transactional storage and distributed query processing to build an elastic and scalable cloud DW to enable Tier1 enterprise workloads in Azure Data Lake. We are looking for passionate people with experiences working with all service aspects of high throughput and multi-tenant services, ability to design components carefully, properly handle errors, write clean and well-factored code with good tests and good maintainability.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Big Data Analytics team, you will contribute to the cloud infrastructure and large-scale distributed platform services that enable the Spark experience in Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse Analytics, as well as help us evolve and modernize Microsoft's Cosmos big data platform.
Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications BS (or higher) degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or IT technical disciplineRelevant years of software design, development and architecture experienceExperience in building commercial grade, robust and scalable solutions in C#/C++/C or any other object-oriented programmingOther Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred/Additional Qualifications Experience developing Cloud online services or extensive experience using cloud online servicesExperience in Distributed Big Data systems is a plus.Experience with modern infrastructure development practices such as Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps, platform engineering, or related.Preferred production experience with Kubernetes and/or Azure Service FabricPreferred Win32 Networking programming experience working with distributed systemExceptional verbal and written communication skillsMicrosoft is an equal opportunity employer. Responsibilities Your core responsibilities would include:
Leading development on features from the front, driving the development lifecycle for ambitious features from prototype/inception all the way to widespread customer adoption.Generating software specifications, proof-of-concepts, and prototype solutions given high level feature requirements.Using data and telemetry to improve feature work and propose feature improvements to existing products.As a senior engineer you will have the opportunity to develop excellent design skills and grow as an engineer and technical leader to mentor and ramp up new hires.Work closely with program and product managers to ensure we are prioritizing the right customer asks.Improve and monitor telemetry to assess the health of the product in both pre-release as well as released software and use this data to drive improvements into the quality of the product.
