Context And Mission
The Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (CASE) department is looking for a researcher in ab initio computational materials science to join the BSC Materials Science group. The project will be developed within the framework of the AI4Science Fellowships (AI4S), a talent attraction and retention program aimed at leveraging the computational capabilities of MareNostrum 5.
Key Duties
Coordination of the materials science team at the BSC-CASE department.
Leading projects on high-performance computing and computational materials modelling.
Incorporating machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) methods into the group research lines related to materials modelling.
Interact with academic and industrial collaborators to carry out collaborative research.
Contribute to publications of scientific papers and periodic reports.
Requirements
Education: PhD in computational materials science and engineering.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
Fully independent researcher with experience as a team leader.
Experience as a coordinator and/or work package leader in international projects.
At least 10 years of experience in materials modelling using ab initio and classical atomistic simulation methods.
Good knowledge of the current state-of-the-art in novel hardware architectures, focusing on co-design in computational materials science.
Experience evaluating electronic structure software on existing and emerging experimental hardware platforms.
Experience with RISC-V-based accelerators.
Excellent in technical writing and communicating results.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Spanish and other European languages is advantageous.
Active collaboration within the EuroHPC Centre of Excellence ecosystem.
Broad international experience and extensive network of academic and industrial collaborators.
Collaboration with code developers, hardware vendors, and system integrators is desirable.
Experience in working within interdisciplinary teams.
Experience organising scientific events and outreach activities.

Conditions
Full-time contract (37.5h/week) with a good working environment.
Duration: 4 years.
23 paid vacation days plus additional holidays.
Salary: 55,000.
Additional Expenses Grant for IT equipment, travel, and training.
Starting date: ASAP, before 16th December 2024.
