Context of the role
Thunes is looking for a talented Senior Regulatory Legal Counsel with a strong payments regulatory background to join our team. The Senior Regulatory Legal Counsel will be expected to advise on payments licensing and regulatory matters and interact with payment regulators.
Key responsibilities Advise on all regulatory issues associated with Thunes.Partner closely with sales, product, treasury, tech, and marketing teams in relation to the development of existing and/or new payments products/services, including reviewing fund and information flows and product documentation, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.Collaborate within the legal and compliance teams to ensure applicable contract templates and compliance processes are in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.Assist with communication with regulators globally.Keep up-to-date with regulatory developments in the financial services space and provide periodic updates to senior management and key business functions on such developments.Manage and liaise with external counsels on legal, licensing, and regulatory matters.Represent Thunes in local and international gatherings of financial regulators where required. What we are looking for Qualified to practice law ideally in the UK and/or France, with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant post-qualification experience (either in-house in the fintech/payments industry or at an international law firm).Global exposure in the payments space and experience in supporting licensed payment entities.Deep knowledge of payments regulations in multiple jurisdictions (e.g., compliance and AML rules, money transmission, safeguarding, and regulatory reporting requirements).Understanding of payments products and legal principles pertaining to the payments ecosystem, regulatory and licensing strategy, and horizon scanning of new markets.Comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment/culture and able to offer creative and practical solutions to overcome licensing and regulatory hurdles.Ability to project manage and deliver on multiple high-priority projects concurrently, capable of exercising independent judgment on governance, risk, regulatory, and legal matters.Proactive, self-motivated team player who always strives for better ways of doing things, without settling for the status quo.Strong command of English (spoken and written).
