Job MissionSchneider Electric's Universal Enclosures business has an outstanding opportunity for a motivated individual to assume the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer. The engineer will be responsible for R&D activities related to product evolution and sustaining projects with the objective of customer satisfaction, product quality, and productivity improvement. The engineer will play a leadership role in the completion of engineering analysis to ensure the adequate performance, quality, and reliability of the product as well as compliance with specific ratings, product specifications, and standards requirements.FunctionsGenerating comprehensive technical documentation, including 3D models, drawings, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Defining and managing the bill of materials (BOM) for components or systems, considering cost, quality, and manufacturability.Analyzing tolerances to ensure that mechanical designs meet performance and assembly requirements.Proposing and evaluating various design solutions to address project challenges and optimize performance and manufacturability.Leveraging experience in prototyping to contribute to the development and testing of physical prototypes.Collaborating in cross-functional teams (Global supply chain, Manufacturing, Quality, purchasing, production, etc.) in stage gate projects or agile.Leading and/or participating in design reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and design optimization efforts.Providing technical expertise and support throughout the product development lifecycle.Using strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, understand, and complete engineering analysis activities to ensure adequate performance, quality, and reliability of the product.Upon assignment from R&D management, independently lead cross-functional teams as Change Owner (Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, etc.) in projects and provide technical expertise to bring assigned projects to completion on time and within budget.CompetenciesProficiency in designing glass-fiber reinforced polyester parts (Sheet Molding Compound - SMC), demonstrating expertise in this specific material and manufacturing process.Experience in a variety of product design technologies, such as metal bending, punching, sandcasting, die casting, gasket design, plastic injection molding, and prototyping, showcasing versatility and adaptability in design methodologies.Proficiency in quality and process improvement methodologies such as 8D Corrective Action, Six Sigma, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and adherence to ISO standards.Skills and Experience15+ years mechanical design experience in R&D.Bachelor's in mechanical engineering. Master's degree is a plus.Teamwork, design thinking & problem-solving skills with the ability to think outside the box.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Strong PC skills + Microsoft Office programs preferred.Proficiency in CAD software.
