Purpose of the Position The purpose of this post is to provide support in the administration of the UNICC's Virtualization infrastructure as well as customer dedicated infrastructures.
Objectives of the Programme The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.
Main duties and responsibilities: The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Platform services Team Lead (OPBO) in the Platform and Infrastructure Operations Unit, within the Operations Division (OP). The incumbent will perform the following duties but not limited to:
Configure, install, and maintain Linux operating systems across different distributions, including Red Hat, Oracle Linux, and UbuntuUnder guidance of the team lead, set up and implement solutions to meet the organization's Linux needsPerform regular system updates, patch management, and configuration changes across various Linux distributionsEnsure the security of the Linux infrastructure by implementing best practices and maintaining compliance with industry standardsMonitor the performance and health of Linux systemsPerform performance tuning and optimization of Linux environmentsIdentify and resolve bottlenecks and performance issues proactivelyProvide technical support and troubleshooting for issues related to Linux environmentsResolve incidents and problems, ensuring minimal downtime and impact on business operationsUse and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline administrative tasksImplement automation solutions for provisioning, configuration management, and monitoringUnder guidance of the team lead, collaborate with other IT teams, stakeholders, and vendors to plan and execute Linux-related projectsCommunicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, providing updates on project status, issues, and resolutionsFollowing the unit's best practices, provide training and guidance to junior team members and other staff as neededStay updated with the latest trends and advancements in Linux technologies and best practicesEvaluate new technologies and tools that could enhance the Linux infrastructureParticipate in Linux-related projectsManage project timelines, resources, and risks effectivelyMaintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of the Linux infrastructure and related processesPrepare and present regular reports on the performance, capacity, and health of the Linux environmentProvide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior managementThe incumbent may be required to act as Officer-In-Charge of the team, during the absence of the Team LeaderRecruitment Profile Experience and Skills required: Essential: Minimum eight (8) years of relevant IT work experience with Linux system administration. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards minimum work experience requirementsProven track record of working with multiple Linux distributions, including Red Hat, Oracle Linux, and UbuntuProficiency in managing and administering Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and maintenanceStrong knowledge of Linux file systems, networking, and securityExpertise with scripting languages such as Python and Ansible for automation and task managementExperience with performance tuning and optimization of Linux environmentsAbility to troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux-related issuesExperience with patch management and system updatesDesirable: Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or ChefUnderstanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesExperience with containerization technologies such as Docker and KubernetesEducation: Essential: Successful completion of secondary school education or its equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in ITDesirable: Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Oracle Linux Certified Implementation Specialist, or similar Linux certificationsITIL, ISO20000, PRINCE2 certificationsLanguages: English: Expert knowledge is requiredKnowledge of the local language of the Duty Station will be an advantageUNICC Global Competencies: Teamwork: Develops and promotes effective relationships with colleagues and team members. Compensation: Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):
