YOUR IMPACT
As a Senior Legal Counsel, reporting directly to the Head of Legal, Pago Nxt Payments, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Supporting our Madrid and London-based regulated e-money and international payments businesses and local teams, including regulatory advisory and dealing with regulator requests.
Drafting and negotiating various commercial agreements, including supplier and customer-facing contracts and material/critical outsourcing arrangements.

- Advising on designing and launching new regulated and non-regulated payment products and services.
- Providing company secretarial and governance support to Pago Nxt's regulated companies in Spain and the UK.
Advising in relation to regulatory changes that present both an opportunity and challenge for the Pago Nxt business, including regulations impacting payments, data, intellectual property, and financial services

Supporting ad hoc projects and transactions working closely with senior management, other Pago Nxt legal teams and, where appropriate, external counsel

Keeping abreast of, and contributing to industry consultations and internal training covering regulatory and market developments in financial services and payments innovation

WHO YOU ARE
EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 7 years' of post-qualification experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or in-house, ideally in a fintech and payments environment.
EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in law.
- MBA and/or additional degrees (Business Administration, Corporate Governance, International law etc.) are not strictly required but will be a plus.
- Sound knowledge of the regulatory regime relating to payments, cloud-based technology and financial services generally, including emerging regulations impacting data and payments.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Problem-solving – knows how to solve complex legal problems, quickly assimilate new information and make decisions; understands complex issues and has legal knowledge, but can reduce those concepts to actionable form, relevant to business decisions and governance.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and Spanish; must be articulate and persuasive with the judgement and authority to provide insightful commentary to senior stakeholders.
- Lead in building strong working relationships, sharing knowledge, skills and experience, focusing on a shared vision in order to enable successful cross team working in pursuit of common goals.
- Assumes and promotes personal ownership and responsibility.
- Responds positively to feedback.
- Undertake appropriate training to ensure continued development.
- Able to liaise with stakeholders across the business and drive agendas.
- Liaise closely with other team members / wider business area for a consistent and coordinated approach.
- High motivation – personally driven to achieve results and able to deliver with minimal supervision.
- Fluent in English and Spanish including being able to review and draft complex documents in those languages.
