Context And Mission
At the heart of innovation at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), we are seeking a Senior IP Legal Officer to join our Management Department and report directly to the General Counsel. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence and shape groundbreaking projects at the forefront of technological advancement, with a primary focus on Intellectual Property (IP) Law in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, data mining, and advanced computing.
Key Duties
Provide expert legal counsel on a wide range of IP matters, including open-source frameworks (e.g., Creative Commons licenses), academic and commercial licenses, with a strong emphasis on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, data mining, and advanced computing.
Draft, review, and negotiate complex IP clauses within collaboration agreements, scientific research contracts, consortium agreements, software licenses, master services agreements, and R&D agreements. Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate potential IP risks and legal challenges in contracts and agreements.
Offer legal advice on ethical IP issues related to AI technologies within contracts and agreements.
Draft legal reports focusing on IP matters involving open-source software/hardware, data mining, and AI-driven projects.
Advise on IP-related matters concerning software, methodologies, trade secrets, algorithms, models, and other proprietary or open-source components within the organization's ecosystem.
Provide legal counsel on IP considerations for the deployment of pilots, software, and other technological initiatives.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Law (required).
Master's Degree in Intellectual Property Law (required).
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in IP law, particularly within the research, technology, and software sectors.
Proven experience advising on complex IP legal matters, with extensive expertise in open-source licensing, proprietary technologies, and AI.
Significant experience negotiating IP clauses with leading global software/technology companies, particularly in English.
Knowledge of data protection and privacy laws applicable to both public and private sector environments.
Excellent verbal and written Spanish, Catalan and English.
Solid understanding of legal frameworks governing AI, data mining, algorithms, and open-source software in a research-driven environment.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Experience in an international environment, particularly in a public research or scientific organization.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
Competences
Strong collaboration skills, effectively working with multidisciplinary teams in a global, scientific, and/or technology environment.
Ability to understand and interact with technical language, working closely with researchers, engineers, and scientists.
Proactive, excellent time management skills, and capable of working under tight deadlines and pressure.
Self-motivated professional who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a passion for IP law and technological advancements.
Conditions
The position will be located at BSC within the Management Department.
We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures.
Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona.
Starting date: Asap.
