We are currently looking for a Senior Game Mode Designer to help craft a new, unannounced game for Blizzard.
We are looking for a well-rounded game designer to join our team and take responsibility for creating game modes with simple objectives that generate instantly fun matches. While having a low barrier to entry, our modes must also offer strategic depth and longevity to our highly-engaged players by offering them interesting choices, multiple ways to achieve the match objectives, and by creating challenging emergent gameplay scenarios for them to contend with.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, prototype, and implement new game modes that are fun, engaging, and align with the core vision of the game.Collaborate with game designers, level designers, and other departments to ensure game modes are balanced, polished, and work within the game's systems.Ensure game modes promote replayability, provide variety, and enhance player progression and engagement.Gather feedback from playtests, user data, and cross-functional teams to iterate on game mode designs and improve the player experience.Maintain detailed and organized documentation for game modes, outlining rules, objectives, and any associated systems.Participate in the tuning and balancing of game modes, ensuring they are fair and enjoyable for players of all skill levels.Work closely with engineers to implement game mode mechanics while adhering to performance and technical constraints.Work with our AI team to develop game mode strategies that provide bots with a game plan to compete realistically.Stay informed on industry trends and player feedback to innovate and improve game modes.Minimum RequirementsExperience in game design, specifically designing and implementing game modes (with at least one shipped title).Strong understanding of game mechanics, player progression, and reward systems.Proficiency with game development tools and scripting.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a strong ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.A deep understanding of player psychology and how to design modes that are enjoyable and accessible.Ability to iterate quickly based on playtesting and feedback.PlussesExperience designing game modes for live-service games or competitive multiplayer titles.Familiarity with agile methodologies and iterative design processes.Knowledge of user data analysis and metrics-based iteration for optimizing game modes.A strong grasp of balancing and tuning game modes for both casual and competitive players.
