In 2016, at Ontruck we started to use cutting-edge technology to drive automation and achieve operational excellence in freight transport processes. The aim was to disrupt the large B2B transportation business (€600 billion in Europe alone), making it easier to operate, while delivering a better experience to both shippers and carriers. Since then we have built a very efficient and profitable freight transport business, and a state of art technology stack. As a result, we currently operate two businesses.
- A transport operator business, where we use our technology to provide freight transportation services to our shippers, through an actively manage marketplace of carriers and an asset light model
- An AI powered SaaS business, where we provide our Technology solutions to other Transport Operators, so that they can streamline their own operations Ontruck is backed by top investors in Europe
In the Finance Team we are looking for a Senior Financial Controller to help us support the two businesses described above. This will give the candidate the opportunity to see up close two realities at two different stages of development: one, stable and profitable; the other, recently funded, in seed stage and in fast growing mode.
We are looking for somebody able to take on multiple tasks and with the flexibility to adapt in a startup environment. We are a flat organisation and you will be working directly with the COO / CFO of the company, and with exposure to other senior leaders.
The core of the role will be concentrated on Financial Reporting / Controlling and Treasury Management duties; in parallel there will be opportunities to expand the scope, and provide support in other areas, such as FP&A and Corporate Finance, depending on the ability of the candidate and the needs of the company.
The right candidate will have ample opportunities to rapidly grow in responsibility. The role will give broad exposure, which will be extremely valuable for somebody willing to grow and develop into a career track towards a Head of Finance role in a startup.
Responsibilities Oversee and support the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions to ensure the accuracy of financial records (in coordination with the outsourced accounting partner) Control P&L and Balance sheet financial statements of the Group companies, including intercompany transactions and ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards Drive the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring timely preparation of monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) Ensure regulatory compliance with Taxes and Financial Reporting Drive variance analysis over budgets and forecasts Coordinate the Audit process, across the range of external and internal stakeholders Develop a cash forecast and manage the treasury needs of the company, including optimising the use of different working capital instruments and the broader relationship with banking institutions Work closely with other departments (e.g., Operations, Sales, People…) to provide financial insights and support Support the COO across a range of FP&A and Corporate Finance areas, for instance: developing annual budgets and forecasts; developing business plans for fundraising; developing business cases for potential SaaS clients Skills and Requirements Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end / year-end close process 2+ years experience in a start-up environment Great attention to detail and ability to structure data and information Advanced analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to manage and maintain complex financial models Strong organisational skills, with the ability to define priorities effectively, and work independently An eagerness to drive constant process improvements Ability to communicate effectively and clearly Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft tools Excellent accounting software user and administration skill Fluency in English and Spanish Plus+ Degree in Finance/Accounting, CPA or equivalent experience. Experience with financial modelling Strong business judgement, with the ability to drive insights Knowledge of French GAAP and IFRS Fluency in French language Familiarity with Odoo or other ERPs Some familiarity with Corporate Law and Governance
