Kyoto's mission: Empower industries with renewable thermal energy. Kyoto Group is named after the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. The Protocol represents a significant step in global efforts to address climate change, setting the stage for future agreements like the Paris Agreement. Kyoto Group aims to revolutionise industrial process heat and reduce CO2 emissions.
Kyoto's vision: A world powered by Nature. Kyoto's core strategy revolves around two main offerings. First, we sell and operate Heatcube thermal batteries, which allow the industrial use of low-cost heat generated from surplus solar and wind energy—typically when electricity prices are low. Second, we manage an Energy Management System, a remote-control solution designed to optimise renewable energy consumption for cost efficiency and carbon neutrality. Our dual focus is to deliver an affordable, carbon-neutral heat product to end-users while providing balancing services and flexibility solutions for power producers and grid operators.
About the role You will oversee the development and supervision of control and safety engineering activities for our projects, including those managed by external partners from our Technical Office in Sevilla. This dynamic position will require close collaboration with the Kyoto Group team across Norway, the UK, and Spain.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will focus on ensuring that all engineering design activities meet three critical criteria: compliance with international standards (e.g., IEC, EMC, LVD, MD, EN 60076-1), alignment with site-specific and client requirements, and adhesion to Kyoto's rigorous technical specifications.
Your expertise will be vital in upholding the highest electrical engineering standards and ensuring safety and performance excellence across our projects.
Responsibilities Preparing and supervising the creation of critical electrical engineering documents, such as electrical engineering standards, single line diagrams, transformer technical specifications, earthing technical specifications, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination reports. Serving as the technical manager for contracts related to the supply of electrical equipment. This includes preparing RFQ packages, evaluating quotations, and reviewing engineering designs and document deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specified requirements. Collaborating with the technical team and other company departments to support manufacturing follow-up, installation, and commissioning site activities. Representing Kyoto with vendors and subcontractors and occasionally attending FAT and SAT at shops or project sites for electrical systems. Participating in the final stages of Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for electrical systems and addressing troubleshooting issues at project sites. Required skills & experiences Master's or bachelor's degree in industrial or electrical engineering. Over eight years of experience in preparing specifications for electrical equipment and designing electrical facilities for power plants, oil & gas, or pharmaceutical industries. Experience with any equipment and installations is advantageous: power transformers, substations, PV power plants, electrical heaters, containerised solutions, and low-voltage distribution cabinets. Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit, integrity, self-motivation, and passion for your work. Strong communication skills with a high proficiency in oral and written English. Who are you? The ideal candidate for this role is a strategic thinker and dynamic leader with a strong passion for delivering exceptional service and operational excellence. Your passion for advancing renewable transformation and decarbonisation drives you. With integrity, a hands-on approach, and a knack for thinking outside the box, you are prepared to tackle challenges head-on.
Are you interested in joining the team? At Kyoto, employees are empowered with the freedom and responsibility to tackle challenges head-on. We value diversity, bringing together team members from various backgrounds to drive its mission of providing renewable thermal energy to industries. This purpose-driven culture is at the heart of everything we do at Kyoto.
