Position Description
The Senior Director, Medical Affairs- Infectious Diseases primary role is to provide medical and scientific leadership in positioning QIAGEN's molecular & immune diagnostic platforms within the infectious disease area across three business franchises. The position will also ensure coordination of medical safety and medical information services under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The incumbent will also oversee and work with medical directors in provision of internal and external education, identification of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in the field and execution of an Investigator Initiated Study programme (IIS). The position is an exciting opportunity for MD, PharmD, microbiologist or life science graduate with experience in infectious diseases management including diagnosis and understanding of patient pathways. The incumbent will work very closely with all business areas and regions and be part of a Global Medical Affairs team with direct reporting to the CMO.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure & Provide Medical Knowledge and Evidence across franchises (immune, PCR, syndromic) in coordination of area specific Medical Director:
- Provide formal presentations on clinical utility and value of QIAGEN's ID molecular diagnostics solutions to hospital, laboratories and other settings of relevance in support of medical directors.
- Lead specific scientific and medical areas within the Global Medical Affairs Team ensuring state of the art scientific insights and assessments.
Establish and oversee a medical safety board across clinical, medical and regulatory functions:
- Responsible and accountable for establishment of a medical safety board to be chaired by CMO and comprehensive of clinical, medical and regulatory functions.
- Coordinates medical director input into complaint handling and contributes to optimal benefit-risk profile.
- Responsible for generating and updating relevant Standard Operating Procedures in relation to medical safety activities.
- Support with medical input regulatory submissions, reviews and audits.
Establish and oversee a medical information structure and function:
- Coordinates medical info processes, monitoring and standardisation delegating strategy and content to Medical Directors.
Provide medical and scientific input and support to regional teams:
- Liaise and coordinate strategy with regional teams.
- Coordinates regional medical resources and where needed takes on line management of regional medical directors and Medical Scientific Liaisons.
Position Requirements
Medical Doctor, Life Science or Medical related degree (Master level and above).
A professional degree with focus on infectious diseases would be preferred.
Minimum of 10 years post graduation experience (preferably at least 2 years in industry).
Familiarity with the safety in IVD and Medical Devices.
Familiarity with infectious disease diagnosis, treatment and/or microbiology/virology methods is desirable.
Knowledge of Laboratory workflow a plus.
Knowledge of PCR technology a plus.
Should be comfortable and have experience, presenting technical information to audiences with various degrees of scientific and clinical experience.
Presentation skills to various stakeholders across different hierarchy levels.
Understanding of clinical trials regulation and execution.
