We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the infrastructure that powers the world's largest online services.Within CO+I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter projects. DCE is in charge of engineering and design for all new datacenter builds and the technical compliance of leased capacity. This team delivers the engineered solutions that align CO+I service level agreements (SLAs).The DCE Senior Electrical Engineer serves as the Subject Matter Expert dedicated to providing key input to the ongoing support of operational datacenters. The preferred candidate will be a Professional Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in datacenter or equivalent high tech infrastructure projects. This position will be located at either a Microsoft campus or remote opportunities exist on a per case basis.In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day.ResponsibilitiesThe DCE Senior Electrical Engineer is a key subject matter expert responsible to provide technical direction, governance, and education pertaining to Microsoft's operational datacenter fleet. Although this role is EMEA based, the successful candidate will be a crucial part of a global team supporting datacenters worldwide focusing on, but not limited to:Providing engineering expertise on support to site operations teams.Working with site operations teams to develop mitigation plans to system level issues.Training of site operations teams on new facility designs and sequence of operations.Electrical system EOP development and governance.Providing technical guidance for facility operations and support in best practices analysis and recommendations.This role requires some travel to various datacenter sites and equipment manufacturer factories and facilities.QualificationsLicensed Professional Electrical Engineer. College/university/professional degree in Electrical Engineering or related work experience.Strong experience with the operation and maintenance of building electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, security, life safety, and controls systems).Solid understanding of critical datacenter or equivalent high-tech critical environments equipment.Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.).Practical experience with automation and control systems.Solid experience in design and/or field engineering of mission critical facilities and electrical infrastructure.Established understanding of electrical theory and practical application of critical electrical equipment (Paralleling switchgear, redundant UPS systems, DC battery strings, multi-source electrical utility switchgear, standby diesel generators, etc.).Fundamental understanding of the International Electrical Code.Demonstrated ability to write, speak, and present information effectively and persuasively.Excellent analytical and organizational skills.Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead proactively.Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
