We are looking for a Senior Scientist, Data Scientist to join our Data Science team.
What you'll do
In this role, you will work directly with our stakeholders across BioPharma R&D (which includes respiratory, immunology, cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, neuroscience, and vaccines) to deliver insights from clinical data, and work collaboratively with other teams within the Centre for Artificial Intelligence to deliver innovative machine learning solutions. Your work will have a significant impact by accelerating the delivery of drugs to our patients. You will work on challenges such as identifying sub-groups of patients from biomarker data, integrating external data to supplement interpretation, and leveraging innovative methodologies for interpreting clinical trial data. Your work will support activities across early and late stages of clinical development. You will have the opportunity to collaborate extensively with other teams across the organization, with the goal of delivering products and novel insights.
Key responsibilities Exploratory Data Analysis of clinical data using data science, machine learning, and visualization to support design and interpretation of clinical trialsCommunicate machine learning and statistical methods and insights to various domain experts, e.g., clinical teams, data scientists, senior management, statisticians, external collaboratorsContribute ideas and provide creative input to clinical research teamsWork efficiently as an individual or in a team of 3-10 to optimally deliver projects across AZ business areasWork to GxP standards required for clinical trial analysisContinue to develop as a data scientist, through attendance at conferences and personal development (10% allocated time) Examples of projects this team works on includeMining real-world data to identify covariates of clinical riskModel and simulate treatment response in clinical trial data to rank covariates of clinical responseDeploy novel data science methods for analyzing clinical trial data to support clinical development and regulatory submissionsPatient risk modelsCounter-factual event modelsBiomarker driven efficacy models Essential for the roleB.Sc. degree in data science, computer science, life sciences, statistics or related fieldAdvanced degree (M.Sc/Ph.D. or equivalent experience) in machine learning, data science, computer science, statistics, life sciences or related field3+ years' experience as a data scientist / machine learning scientistExperienced in PythonTrack record of collaborating successfully with stakeholders and delivery of impactful data science projects and analysesFamiliar with modern software engineering practices and the use of modern collaborative tools (e.g., AWS or similar, GitHub, Jira, unit testing, etc.) Desirable for the rolePh.D. or equivalent experience in machine learning, data science, computer science, statistics, life sciences or related fieldExperience within the pharmaceutical industry and ability to demonstrate understanding of drug development and clinical trial process and data (all phases)Experienced with clinical data standards, medical terminologies and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologiesUse of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in the generation of hypotheses from patient level data Why AstraZeneca?
