At TomTom we're seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Maps Quality and Product Insight team in Madrid. As part of the team, you will help TomTom deliver the most up-to-date, accurate and detailed maps and location services for the hundreds of millions of drivers around the world, enabling the future of autonomous driving.
The Maps Quality and Product Insight team is focused on providing state-of-the-art data & analytics solutions that enable fast and cost-effective data-driven strategic decision making within TomTom and for our customers and partners.
What you'll do: Help to make location content best-in-class by advocating for and implementing changes to technology, process, tools, and systems.
Drive strategic business decisions with insights obtained by manipulating large volumes of data from various sources: system logs, satellite imagery, vertical imagery, street level imagery, GPS traces, etc., both individually and by fusing several combinations of these sources.
Design, develop and maintain data processing pipelines to use these data sources individually or combined and to predict various map features and attributes by applying statistical models/ML/AI models.
State the quality level of our maps via statistical experiments that help us understand where we are and why, delivering effective insights that drive our map editing strategy.
Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model and system performance and data accuracy.
Collaborate with teams from diverse backgrounds (e.g., data scientists, software engineers, product managers) across the company and with our customers on projects and knowledge sharing.
Work in a company promoting innovative and modern technologies – Java 8/Python, Continuous Deployment (Docker, Terraform, Azure), Cloud Computing, and high code quality and engineering standards.
Dedicate part of your schedule to research and development to acquire new skills, run your own experiments, and individual projects.
What you'll need: 5+ years of experience working as a Data Scientist or Software Engineer (with relevant experience in data analytics projects).
Excellent communication skills in English.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Team-oriented – able to communicate with other team members, express doubts, and provide and accept constructive feedback.
Passionate about programming with a solid foundation in software development, eager to learn and improve skills.
Work experience in Big Data ecosystems (e.g., Spark, Databricks).
Fair statistical knowledge and expertise in designing and testing experiments and drawing conclusions under uncertainty (sampling strategies, robust statistical estimation, etc.).
Experience in various ML/AI techniques and frameworks.
Experience in at least one object-oriented language – Python and PySpark is a must, Scala is a plus.
Fair knowledge level on SQL/NoSQL databases.
Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent field.
Nice to have: Experience with Scala.
Previous experience with working, processing, and visualizing GeoSpatial Data at scale (e.g., experience with QGIS or cloud-native geospatial tools).
What we offer: A competitive compensation package, of course.
Time and resources to grow and develop, including a personal development budget and paid leave for learning days, as well as paid access to e-learning resources such as O'Reilly and LinkedIn Learning.
Time to support life outside of work, with enhanced parental leave plus paid leave to care for loved ones and volunteer in local communities.
Work from home, the office, or even abroad – each team has the flexibility to choose how they work based on business needs.
Improve your home office with a setup budget and get extra support with a monthly allowance.
Enjoy options to work from your home country and abroad for a set number of days each year, to visit family and friends, or to simply explore the world we're mapping.
Take the holidays you want with a competitive holiday plan, plus an extra day off to celebrate your birthday.
Join annual events like our Hackathon and DevDays to bring your ideas to life with talented teammates from around the world.
Become a part of our inclusive global culture and have the chance to collaborate with a diverse community – we have over 80 nationalities at TomTom!
