Introduction to team Private Label Solutions (PLS) is the B2B arm of Expedia Group. We open up our supply and innovative technology to businesses looking to take on the world of travel. These businesses, sometimes referred to as our demand partners, include global financial institutions (e.g. AMEX), corporate managed travel, offline travel agents (e.g. Flight Centre), global travel suppliers (e.g. Delta) and many more.
In this role, you will: Proactively team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross-dependencies and shared problem-solving.Participate in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge.Build and operate highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.Develop and test complex or non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.Effectively apply knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns, and computer science fundamentals to write clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular code with good naming conventions.Effectively apply knowledge of databases and database design principles to solve data requirements.Effectively apply object-oriented design concepts, distributed computing, performance/scalability tuning, advanced data structures and algorithms to batch and real-time stream analytics and large data processing.Understand software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code.Lead and clarify code evolution in code reviews.Coordinate different stakeholders with varied perspectives to develop solutions to issues, and contribute own suggestions.Think holistically to identify opportunities around policies/processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries.Assist with a whole system approach to analyzing issues by ensuring all components (structure, people, process and technology) are identified and accounted for.Recognize areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements.Recommend advancements, innovations and technological changes (specifically relating to data engineering, cloud data platforms, data models, enterprise information management, business intelligence and data science).Compile data and reports on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) to larger groups, whether via written or oral means. Experience and qualifications: Education 5+ years for Bachelor's.3+ years for Master's. Functional/ Technical Skills Display strength in at least 3 programming languages relevant to data (e.g. Java, Spark, Python).Identify strengths and weaknesses among languages for particular use cases.Built and maintained more than one data pipeline/data product in production environments (bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.).Apply organizational technology patterns effectively in their projects and recommend alternate options.Hands-on experience working with large volumes of data including different patterns of data ingestion, processing (batch & real-time), movement, storage and access (for both internal and external to BU) and can make independent decisions within the project's scope.Display a good understanding of data structures and algorithms.Hands-on experience working with at least 1 cloud technology and its offerings within the data specialization.Business acumen/domain knowledge (understand how projects/teams interact with other teams).Understand and design moderately complex systems.Familiarity with some data modelling and schema design patterns.Test and monitor code at the project level.Understand how to test and monitor tools (Testing, monitoring, alerting).Debug and fix issues within established SLAs.Design software that is easily testable and observable.Identify business problems at the project level and provide solutions.Experience in streaming technology, data validation, data performance and cost optimization.Demonstrate knowledge of advanced and relevant technology.Exhibits comfort working with several forms of technology.Understand the relationship between applications, databases and technology platforms.
