The Europe long-term power team is a talented, collaborative group of analysts producing market-leading research in rapidly evolving markets.
We work closely with our colleagues across Wood Mackenzie's wider power and renewables research practice, supporting our market views with high-quality analysis of the value chains of solar PV, onshore and offshore wind, and energy storage.
The insight we provide our clients is strengthened by the integration of our analysis with the wider work of our commodities and energy transition groups, including fuels and carbon markets, and the analysis of emerging technologies, such as hydrogen and carbon capture and storage.Main ResponsibilitiesDeliver a high-quality serviceWork with other team members to develop insightful and compelling analysis of the fundamental drivers, sensitivities, and key sources of uncertainty influencing the development, operation, and transformation of Europe's power markets.Ensure that our reports and associated client briefing material provide articulate and insightful analysis of industry trends, outcomes, sensitivities, and potentially disruptive influences.Support the innovation and enhancement of the depth and quality of our research offerings.Contribute to research and product development strategies and planning, helping to ensure that our offerings provide pertinent content, targeting issues and markets of high value to our existing and perspective clients.Supporting commercial growthEngage with prospective clients and other stakeholders to promote our Power and Renewables offerings.Build relationships with existing and prospective clients, developing opportunities to demonstrate the scope and value of our research, pursue new business and secure revenue growth.Provide support to our consulting team, contribute to the development of proposals and execution of live projects.Use your knowledge and experience to provide support and guidance to junior analysts, contributing to the growth of individuals and development of our team.Power market modellingSupport our market modelling activities - maintain, develop, and run our hourly power dispatch, capacity and ancillary market models and associated tools and process.Co-ordinate data gathering and analysis activities.
Ensure that key data flows, including those to/from other research teams, meet agreed specifications on quality, scope, and timeliness.Interpret model outputs to produce considered and insightful power markets analysis.Model the costs and break-evens of different generation technologies and the influences/uncertainties relating to specific sources and markets.Access the economics of assets, quantifying market opportunities for investments in new sources of supply and flexibility.Data and process improvementGenerate ideas and innovative solutions for analysis, insight and process improvement.Have a strong focus on delivering data quality, demonstrating initiative and good understanding of data structures and databases.Drive collaboration across the business by ensuring completion of complex ad-hoc data requests on time and with high quality, whilst following policies, procedures and best practices.ExpectationsQualifications: You are intellectually curious, collaborative, innovative, organised, and detail orientated.
You are also committed to proving great service to our clients and have a strong commitment to the growth and success of our team.
You have strong modelling skills, including either experience of hourly power dispatch modelling or commercial analysis in power markets gained at a utility, developer, consultant/research provider, or other markets/investment focussed organisation.
Detailed knowledge of at least one of Europe's major power markets is essential, as is familiarity.
