Senior Accountant II, VAT Introduction to the team: Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
Within Corporate Functions, International Accounting has teams based in Prague, London, Madrid, Sao Paulo and Seattle, and oversees all international accounting, statutory and indirect tax compliance processes, partnering closely with other tax, finance and operational teams across the globe.
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, this role will work cross-functionally with Global Indirect Tax, Statutory Accounting, Business Operations & Corp AP and Finance team members, along with outsourced compliance partners, to enable accurate and timely indirect tax compliance & reporting, whilst also focusing on innovation & automation within this space.
In this role, you will: Manage a portfolio of legal entities' indirect tax compliance & accounting processes.Where outsourced to external advisors, operate efficient processes to review VAT filings & processing VAT payments in accordance with deadlines.Prepare and post VAT journal entries and own the validation & reconciliation of various tax accounts via Blackline certification processes, whilst ensuring appropriate documentation of SOX controls.Work with the rest of the team to implement opportunities to further improve, innovate, automate and evolve our tax compliance function using the latest tools & technology (e.g. Alteryx, Power Apps).Continuously build and nurture collaborative relationships with cross-functional teams within Expedia to support work initiatives (Corporate AP, Indirect Tax, FP&A, statutory accounting, Finance Projects) - including work on new ERP systems implementations.Experience and qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.At least 2-3 years of prior experience in finance/accounting roles, preferably with industry experience within a progressive high technology industry.Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal.High level of intellectual curiosity, sense of ownership and passion for delivering outcomes.Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload.Ability to remain flexible and work collaboratively and autonomously in a dynamic environment.Proficient Microsoft Excel skills, and an interest in Alteryx and other automation tools a plus.
